U.T.A.H. Camp replied to Meatseeker's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Seeker - Good morning. I read your post on MM as well, I have to agree with most of what was said on that thread. Congratulations on a great tag. -

Nice buck & excellent writeup. -
Wereyou close to Williams? I know they were doing steep country logging with helicopters on BW mountain recently. Maybe they were staging in your area???

Did you ever want to revisit 1997? No not for that. I mean to experience the futuristic elegance of a Geocities style website in all its glory. Never fear AZGFD has you covered. It very disappointing to see some of the back and forth on here. It'd be nice to see more of hunters supporting hunters.

Excellent work...Congratulations!!!

Who knows? There was a fairly good spread of stuff. 12 gauge turkey & bird, 9mm, .357, 300 wsm, 6.5 creed... it was a mess. I kinda think the stock kid was overran by pushy customers.

There was a shopping cart, full - top and bottom. Also a pallet a foot deep with cases. Just a mob of people building around it. As I was leaving, another customer was complaining about it just being abandoned on the floor in a pile. Not a great scene, but I got a few boxes on my lunch break!

Arizona Bonus points- worth it or not for the december hunts?

10 points on a coues tag...ouch! -
I'm glad I saw this thread. Ethics aside, that's personal, my question - is the bobber thing legal in AZ? I was discussing this recently with a buddy. We were thinking little balloons instead of bobbers though.

Its opening morning for the last elk hunt this year. I met up with a hunter from Minnesota this morning who had some misfortune. His rifle fell off of his UTV. This was unit 10 on FS Road 6 just north of the tracks. Its a Remington 7400 auto in 30-06. It was in a scheels hard case and was scoped (brand unknown). Please help this guy out if any CWT members have a lead. DM me for his contact info. -Patrick

Enchanted Trash. Quite the attitude I've noticed from our neighbors to the east. I guess there's assholes everywhere. Is it possible that the mask thing is being used as an excuse to be shitty human?

Vehicle Break-In - Unit 33 on Catalina Hwy.
U.T.A.H. Camp posted a topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Just a heads up to be more diligent than I. My vehicle was broken into yesterday (Monday, January 20th) while parked on Catalina Hwy. I've now lost my first two trail cameras to thieves, just not in the traditional manner. Also gone: Surface Pro, backcountry tent, sleeping bag and a range bag full of the many hard to account for things we keep in range bags, & many other items. They even stole a gallon of water. Dont give people a reason to break in your car! Hunt hard, stay safe. -
Can i rent some crane decoys?
U.T.A.H. Camp replied to CatfishKev's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I'd think the cost of the trip to Home Depot and Michael's negates any savings on decoys. I would personally rather have a couple nice decoys instead of a craft project. I understand the DIY tactic. That sort of plan does not always end up on the cheap though. -

Arizona Mountain Inn seems pretty awesome...to bad its in Flagstaff instead of Williams. -
I found this unlucky guy caught in the thorny bramble of a mesquite tree. I was wondering what the CWT community thought on bird (owl) feathers and other interesting parts - does anyone know the laws regarding possession of such things?

possibly a time machine?

Its always a shame when old buildings are torn down to be replaced with, well - crap. Criminal if you ask me.

How do you “close” a mountain? - Unit 33
U.T.A.H. Camp posted a topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
With caution tape – duh! I went up the Lemmon yesterday. My last trip up there was in mid-August. It was encouraging to see some of the previously closed areas now open. However, the whole mountain is basically still closed. Everything past Windy Point is still closed for “PUBLIC HEALTH and SAFTEY”. I have the first rifle coues hunt in unit 33. I drew this as my second choice with 2 or 3 points. Hunt dates are October 16th – October 22nd. There are lots of places still open, but my hunting areas were in the high country off of Catalina Highway. I’m confident I can find deer, but I feel like I’m settling for lower quality hunting just because I have the tag. My question is: What would you do with this tag? I have point-guard. I am 46 years old, is it worth it to use this once in a lifetime offer to recover two or three bonus points? -
How do you “close” a mountain? - Unit 33
U.T.A.H. Camp replied to U.T.A.H. Camp's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I was hoping that 33 might stay open a little longer for black bear. Nope...female harvest has already been met. Obviously someones hittin' the mountain already. -
Fire restrictions. Anyone else considering turning tag back in?
U.T.A.H. Camp replied to daverp's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
At least unit 10 doesn't have caution tape wrapped around it. Stage 1 or 2 restrictions- this is the rule regarding fire: "Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove other than in a developed campsite or picnic area is prohibited. Exemptions include persons using a device solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off." Sounds like all you need is a "developed" campsite. That and cooperative weather (i.e. - no wind). The fancy propane campfire thing seems great too. Fire restrictions vs Fire Closure... its a no brainier that I'd try'n hunt this tag! You got 2 weeks...make sure to update with your decision.
