  1. If anyone has a good hunting spot, just point me in the general direction or PM me if you care to share (that way I wont "spill the beans" on the "honey hole"). I promise no one's feelings will be hurt since everyone here that were drawn for the November hunt will use point guard; anyway, from what I understand and I wont divulge anything to anyone. I'm a CPA & used to keeping information confidential.
  2. Ok, I understand - thanks for bringing this to my attention. I am asking for help on this forum. Asking for road numbers is asking for help, right? If you're lost or unfamiliar with an area, don't you "ask for assistance" or help on finding your way there? Again, it's not like a business, it's a hobby. A business is what you do for livelihood who in here hunts year round & sells their kill? A hobby is something you do out of enjoyment and don`t profit from it, except for the memories. The forest is big enough for everyone - only 250 elk tags were issued for the year so plenty of room & I don't think I'm intruding on anyone's territory.
  3. I take the advise given here adamantly and don't take me the wrong way, I'm not asking for handouts as you're insinuating. It's not like a business, it's like a hobby where I'm asking "how'd you do, that type of question". I was already going to hike the area but asking for ideas of what area to hike. I would bet, on your / their first hunt, most in here already had a partner to lead the way & not doing it by themselves, which is how they learned the area. I'm not asking for a "partner of 50/50 split in the business". I'm asking for advise - it's not like I'm stealing any business from anyone, it's a huge area. BTW, thanks for saying I'm a new young guy. I'll take that as a compliment.....call me a very early young retired guy. Came out here in 95 working my nuts off and had a goal to retire after my goals were met. Guess what, I met that goal last year so I called it quits, packed my bags, & moved to Snowflake. Here I am asking for help from other experienced hunters in the area so I may be able to, at least, bag one elk in my life & if I don't this time around, maybe next year I'll know some folks that wouldn't mind asking me to join them for the experience or I'll know the area enough to navigate the good areas.
  4. Sorry about my ignorance....res boundary?? Do you know which forest road?
  5. What knife so you carry with you for your hunt? That's something I haven't thought of.
  6. Who are you talking about? I've really heard nothing bad in these posts.
  7. 10 x 42s?? I know it's not a great time of year, the bulls are all tuckered out from rutting & competing. It's all about the food at this point.
  8. LOL- I plenty of time for patience and fortitude with no towel guys. I will prevail. 👍 Anyone care to join my hike? 😁
  9. I would guess so. No biggy, I'm a big kid and will figure it out. Most do a hunt with a couple people, it's fun that way.
  10. Thanks for the pointers (no pun intended). Like I said, it's my 1st hunt & sont know the area tol well. I have a few months - live just outside Snowflake so it's not that bad of drive.
  11. My apologies, I was kidding. He told me, basically, I shouldn't have wasted my money so was giving it back to him. Guess noob hunters should be quiet here.:)
  12. Funny. I'm a day late/nickel short on that. Sounds like you're a "glass half empty" type of guy.
  13. Are there free apps similar to OnX hunt?
  14. Flatline map? I can Google that. Thanks, this is what I need as well, a good map. The azgfd doesn't have much online I can reference. Unit 3A have many Pinon/Juniper in the area.
  15. Not looking for easy....that doesn't make a hunt. Just looking for a good general area. When camping fr236 about 100 yrs from road, I did see a couple blinds built by a watering hole but the area is getting very populated. Hardly any camps during this period, though.
  16. I live just outside of Snowflake off of Concho hwy 277. My property is almost in the middle of 3A but there's nothing out here that I've seen (have only been out here since May last yr. from the valley). Is anyone familiar with this area? I figured I'd have better luck in 3C being higher elevation & all.
  17. Thanks Lee! First time's a learning experience.
  18. Was anyone here selected for the unit 3c for september?
  19. I dont know anyone hunting both units in Sept. The only hunter I know has unit 23.
  20. Guess I'll have to be. I mostly want one for the meat this time of year.
  21. Thanks, I will. Will be doing it on my own so I just didn't feel like traveling the whole map area.
  22. I've never seen deer when camping, only elk. Was wondering if there were some better spots than others. I'll just scout the area out over the next few months & see what I find. Where in a are there elk? I live off of concho & see nothing in the area.
