    Velvet Freak Bull - Video

I always look forward to watching your videos, they are great. what camera do you guys use? I think you went to school with my wife Natalie Lines , And you helped me with my first bow at bear mnt back in the early 90's anyhow thanks for the videos Mason Davis
  6. Well, I got my gun back from the gun smith today and i could not wait to try some of the loads i had worked up. I did not have much time so i did my testing just out in the desert at 100 yards. The good news is my gun shoots GREAT now. The bad news is there is more than one load that it really likes. I only had time to shoot 6 groups of 3 shots because i let the barrel cool down between groups. The gun smith built aluminum pillars, glass bedded it , and floated the barrel. After i had shot my five groups ,my 13 year old son asked if he could shoot a group, so I said sure, he showed me up again with the .245 inch group. He is the same one who made me look bad shooting 24/25 clay pigeons with his 20 gauge. while i went 18/25 with my 12 gauge. Anyhow now I have a couple good starting loads to work with.
  7. He crowned the muzzle break when he put it on, about a month ago, the only thing he did when I took it back to him was , he made aluminum pillars, beded the action, then floated it. He also aligned my scope, because some bonehead has a crooked eye (me).actually I had used that tool called level level level, to align my scope and bubble, but something was off. I was almost ready to kill my brother because he had talked me out of buying the savage LRH 111, to buy the model 700 ,i think for his sake he was happy to hear the gun was shooting good. I think now I will work on a ocw test to dial in the best powder charge, then I will shoot at some longer ranges Btw.thanks, jeffro &308 nut for educating me on ocw/ladder test. There is a 10 part series on you tube called road to precision . Very wel put together on shooting long range and reloading. They cover a lot of good info.

    Pan Seared Coues Backstrap

That looks great. thanks for sharing ,I tell people the worst thing you can do to a piece of wild game is over cook it. That cut looks perfect and tender, I am cooking some yellowtail on the grill today (that we caught in mexico last week). We use a similar rub for our yellowtail its simple but great

    Coues Hunt on Outdoor Channel

I watched the show , really enjoyed it. I had bought some game camera bear boxes from Eric, ( great guy , great service , excellent prices). It was nice to put a face with the guy at the other end of the phone. I love watching the outdoor channel, I hope people from other parts of the country enjoyed how beautiful Arizona really is.

    part one javelina 2011 video

I think you did a great job on the video, What kind of camera are you using?
  14. I bought a new Remington model 700 7mm mag from sportman warehouse. synthetic stock 26 inch stainless barrel. I had a muzzlebrake installed before i ever shot it.(hopefully that is not my problem).I broke the gun in with about 20 shots cleaning it after every shot for the first 10 shots, then every 3 shots. Then 2 weeks later I worked up 14 different loads using H1000 powder and retumbo , and different seating depths, hoping to find a load that my gun liked. I am shooting berger 168 bullets. I did all of my shooting at 200 yards because sometimes berger bullets dont go to sleep till past 100 yards. ( at least that is what i have found with my other guns that shoot berger bullets). Anyhow I did all my shooting at 200 yards . All 4 shot groups. My best three groups were .80 -.95 moa, The worst three groups were 2 moa, The remaining 8 groups hovered around 1.5 moa. That is not good enough. I am thinking about sending the gun to a gun smith friend of my brothers to have the barrel floated and glass bedded , and pillar bedded, All for 150$, but it will still be the cheap factory stock.Other than a new barrel, any ideas? Also there was little to no wind at the range,And the few groups that did shoot well were all the ones that were seated farther from the lands, which i thought was odd, for berger bullets. Maybe the harmonics of the gun is a little off because the barrel is not floated, so it likes the bullets not seated to close to the lands. I don't believe it is a scope problem .It's a zeiss conquest 6.5-20x 50 and I never touched the turrets during the process. When i was done at the range I pulled out my browning a-bolt 30.06, and shot 2 groups at 200 yards under 3/4 moa, then I pulled out the remington model 700 .243 and at 200 yards shot 2 groups also under 3/4 moa and that is the factory stock no glass bedding, and not floated.go figure . Any ideas or help would be great. Thanks Mason
  15. You guys are great , thanks for all your help. At first I thought I was going a bit overboard with so many different load configurations, but now i think I have not gone far enough. With these next loads that I have ready to shoot, I focused more on powder charge then the seating depth,Now I'm thinking I need to add a few more loads where I change up the seating depths in addition to different powder charges.I think once i get close I will be able to work with smaller increments, and really be able to utilize that ladder test. BTW that was a great illustration of OCW. Once you find the perfect powder charge can you do the same type of test for your seating depth? If you were to focus on one or the other, as your developing the load, would it be powder charge or seating depth? Also do you notice your bullets start to do funny things as the barrel starts to heat up? And how do you determine when you need to let the barrel cool down? Sorry one more question, I have about 20 zip lock baggies with 4 bullets in each bag, with all the load info written on the bag ,then I write the velocities on the bag , then I put that target in that bag corresponding with those bullets shot at that target, But my question is during those 80 shots how often should I clean my barrel?
  16. I'm Hoping to get my gun back early next week, with pillars, glass bedded and floated.so this weekend I worked up another 20 different loads, each 4 shot loads, it will take a full day to go through all the testing because I need time in between groups to let the barrel stay cool. My question is do I continue to shoot all of my loads at 200 yards, our am i better off at 100 yards to get my data?
  17. Thanks for all the help and comments. I did have a trigger job done the same time as the brake , its awesome. I think i'm going to also try r19 and r22. I already looked into a bell and carlson from stocky stock , my model 700 is the adl model , no hinged floor plate. so its not available . options are H.S or McMillan not cheap. Maybe there are some other ones out there also. Funny thing about my groups , they are all over the paper, not just a flier here and there. Also
  18. My brother also shoots a 264 mag. He shoots 140 amax out of his .His favorite powder so far is h870( but he said they dont make it anymore or they changed the name of it, I think it is a ball powder). He now shoots retumbo and likes it. He tried h4831 sc cause he had some extra left over but it was NO good at all.His gun did not like that powder. He was surprised that your gun likes R19 , but every gun is different. And i'm still trying to figure out what my gun likes.
  19. I actually did shoot two groups of 139 grain hornady boat tail soft points, (they were free from hornady when i ordered the reloading dies), using h4831 sc velocity 2780 1.5 moa about the same on both groups 308 nut you must have been talking with my brother , he swears by the 162 amax, I will give them a try along with some others , at this point i will give her whatever she likes. With all the loads I used winchester WLRM primers , but I will try some of the others that you recommended. At this point i think i will send the gun to the gun smith and let him do his thing with the glass and pillar bedding and float the barrel. 150$ sounds like a fair price . In the mean time i will work up some different loads including some other bullet types.

    amazing shot

Santa brought my 13 year old son a new 20 gauge shotgun for Christmas, I took him and his buddy out for a little clay pigeon target practice , He has always been a good shot but he was on a role, so after going 10 for 10 , I figured i better get this on video with my phone , and of coarse as soon as the camera is on he missed a shot, but settled down after that and smoked the rest of them. I am very proud of him. Part Two Part Three

    30A Dos Cabezas access issues

A few years back the klumps , said they would give me and a few of my hunting buddies access for 1000$ cash, He said we would be hunting areas that haven't been hunted in years , The area we were going to be hunting on was wilderness, He only controlled the access to the road , because some of his land crossed the road , that accesses the entire mnt, So its basically not accessible, unless you want to do a lot of hiking
