    New Minimum Draw Weight

Hi: I feel that is a mistake. Lots of javelinas will be lost due to this. This potentially may "boomerang" on us and turn off young and females new to the sport of archery hunting by making there first hunting experience include a wounded and lost big game animal. A better stategy would have to go to 35 pounds for recurves and longbows for javelinas and turkeys and 30 pounds for compound bows for pigs and turkeys. The 40 pound limit should stay for everything else. Just my opinion. 280REM

    Factory or Handloaded Ammo?

My first three Coues were taken with a Browning chambered for .25-06. That rifle likes the 117 grain Sierra Gameking in the Federal Premium loading. My most recent buck was taken with a Remington 700 chambered for .280 Remington. I used the Federal Premium load with a 140 grain Nosler solid base @ 3030 fps. 280REM
  5. Buy the Birchwood Casey kit with stain, tru-oil and conditioner. If you want to get fancy also buy a bottle of gunstock wax. 280REM

    Whitetail cape

Hi: I ruined the cape on the buck I took in late December with a bullet across the neck. I am looking for the following: One Coues Whitetail cape from a medium/large buck taken in late December to late January in southern Arizona. My deer was a relatively large three point so spikes, forks and small threes will not be large enough. A green, frozen cape that is NOT salted. I would prefer that the ears not be turned, lips not split and not cut up the back of the neck. My buck had a very thick salt & pepper fur and a swollen neck. The preferred cape should be long and extend past the deer's front legs. If you cannot or do not care to cape the animal you harvested, just freeze it and I will offer to ship the entire head with mine and return the antler skull plate to you if you prefer. Let me know if you think you can help. Thanks, 280REM

    .270 vs. 7mm

I am not a big fan of either and have not shot either. My belief is that I can shoot my entire life and never need a cartridge with a silly belt. The belt was originally to headspace a .375 H&H! The 7mm mag burns too much powder, too much noise too much recoil. Shoot 140 grainers in the .270 O'Conner at or above 3000 fps and do not look back! 280REM

    broken hammer

Years back I found a stainless hammer for my S&W Model 629 on ebay and had it installed fitted by a local gunsmith. You may also find some parts at local gunshows. Good luck, 280REM
