  2. in Tucson, you pick up or meet near El Con:

    1. 30 ct Nolser 210gr .308” Accubond Long Range. one tip is malformed…

    2. Weatherby Mark V American trigger. I had it adjusted to about 3 pounds but it wasn’t allowing the safety to engage properly and it did have some creep. I’m sure somebody could tweak the spring and otherwise polish it to get it in tiptop shape but I was also sure a Timney would be awesome, so that’s what I went with.

  3. If want to get a good night’s sleep bring some camping gear and find a beach away from the marina.

The one thing that is gnarlier than the hotel is the public campground at the marina.

Note, I’ve only been a few times and it’s been over a decade because the last time camping at the public campground was that traumatic. The hotel back then was “ok” but like trphyhntr I was hammered.

  4. Can anyone share starting/max loads for H1000, US869 and Reloader 22 (if published) for 200 and 212 ELDX in a .30-378 Weatherby Magnum?

I used to have a Horned manual ebook but between a new computer, cell phone and Apple ID insanity its lost on the interwebz…

Or if anyone has personal experience with this cartridge and wants to share that would be cool too. I also have IMR 4831 to play with.

    Edit:

    A member helped me out:

    “For 200 grain e l d x h 1000 is 95.4 and maximum 103.5. Us 869 is 104.6 and 117.2. For 212 e l d x h 1000 i91.and 100.7. us 869 is 104.1 and 114.1 ”

  5. Made in the USA versus China and would be a primary reason to go Avet. Avets are more user friendly to clean/maintain for the average guy too.

I own an Avet HX Raptor and one of the newer Fathom 40NLD2, as well as variety of smaller Avets and one of the older Fathom 25n 2 speed

They are all excellent. The Raptor is superior but it also costs at least $200 more than a Fathom.

If you are in PHX go to Phoenix Fishing Supply on 16th & Camelback. They sell Avet  & Penn and have an excellent selection of saltwater rods.

"Until you hook a bigger than expected fish and have to fight it for an hour."  I'm open to the challenge... sounds like a good problem to have.

It is a good problem to have on a private boat with friends, not with an open party when not only the other anglers but also  the captain and crew need to move on and find more fish.

  7. Verdehunter, i’m assuming this is a new type of fishing for you?

if it is rent tackle from H&M, 100%.

you could easily spend more than the cost of the trip on a pair of rods and reels, and if you are going to bring gear on a 3 Day you want at least 3 outfits.

i’d rent and watch and see what the other anglers are using and take the opportunity to learn about reels and rods, settings, line capacity, drag, etc.

if you like this type of fishery, you will have some knowledge from the trip about what type of rods and reels you want to buy when you do it again.

I would buy some flouro carbon as they won’t give that to you with your rental…40#-80#… if you can afford to go bigger do it. I would buy 2-4 jigs flatfall style or knife jigs, 180-250grams,   4-6 torpedo 5-10ounce  torpedo sinkers with rubber bands, and a variety of hooks…#2-2/0.

As another member said, practice knots for a week or more ahead of the trip. The San Diego jam knot is the preferred leader to hook or Lure  connection. The Palomar or a good old fisherman‘s a.k.a. Trilene knot also work fine in that application. it’s also wise to be proficient with a line the line knot or two. If you’re connecting mono to Flouro, a surgeons knot works fine and is quick/easy. For leader to braid, I personally like the Alberto knot but there’s half a dozen or more that will work.

unless you’re planning on driving back to AZ with your fish, I would call fish processor now and make a reservation. Fishermans and 5 Star are the gotos…

Feel free to PM me if you like, I am not an expert at anything, but I do several 3 day trips a year out of San Diego.

  8. SOLD: Rossi Tuffy 18.5" open bore .410, shoots 3" shells. 10 test rounds fired, no issues. Comes with 20 rounds 3" 4# and 3 rounds 2.5" Winchester Critical Defense rounds. Cool truck/pest control gun. SOLD

TRADE PENDING: 1959 Winchester Model 12 12 gauge, 2/34" chamber, 30" barrel, Full choke, White Flyer recoil pad installed at some point. Gun is in excellent condition, really only shows noticeable wear in the chamber and on the magazine tube. Do knot now its history, mystery closet find from a relative passing. Have not fired it, did run some solvent & oil down the barrel. Trigger clicks with snap caps and have noticed some feed issues with the magazine (sometimes the shell pops out of the magazine). Check prices on Gunbroker for Model 12s of this vintage...would like to trade it for a 12 or 20 that can shoot 3" shells...or a sporter bolt action in .308, .243 or .30-06. Suspect this will only interest shotgun collectors. TRADE PENDING

Both of these firearms are in central Tucson. Thanks for looking...
