Any one shoot this Ram yet

I have heard that a hunter from Sedona killed a sheep in unit 22 that scored 193 so it is possible that it's been killed. The hunters name is Serge Wright,I had a buffalo tag at houserock at the same time with him.Cliff

    Bighorn Sheep

After trying to get a sheep tag for 39 years, the good lord felt sorry for me, and got my chickens in a row.I was like most people with a sheep tag-no knowledge of sheep ,or what to do.A good friend of many many years is a very successful sheep guide with about 48 successful sheep hunts under his belt.I picked his brain, and everyone else that I could think of to learn about sheep.I talked to hunters that had the same tag last year, and the other hunter this year.Fast forward to last wed.opening day.Having scouted 10-12 days I felt I was ready. We had camp set up,and about 7 of my friends were coming to help. The other hunter had found a sheep that he wanted to take, and he was successful on a ram that scored 171.Not bad, considering that the largest sheep killed in the unit the last 25 years scored 170.I went to his camp to see his sheep that evening, and it was a great feeling knowing that I held the only remaining tag in the unit.We all went out the next couple of days with only a few sheep seen, and no shooters.Sat. morning we went out to the area where the other hunter was successful, and found a couple of rams right away. They moved over the ridge due to a truck even though they were 1/2 mile away.We moved positions, and one of my friends seen them, and the stalk was on.We had a video man, spotter, and myself move across to the mountain, and on the backside of a ridge from the sheep, everyone stayed back. There ended up being 6 rams with 3 shooters. While they fed around we set up the 15x56's,and watched them for about 30 minutes. They bedded down on a very steep hogback. The ram that I finally choose to take was quartering away looking over the desert floor.I ranged him at 390 yards, and told my buddies that I was going to shoot.I was shooting a 7mm mag. that I have had since 1972.so I know the rifle fairly well.At the shot the rams head dropped between his front legs, and he was mine.He ended up scoring 166,and some change at Game and Fish.I hunted on the Barry Goldwater Gunnery Range in 40B.I want to thank Greg Koons, and everyone else that made this hunt possible,as it was definately a team effort

    Bighorn Sheep

Lark,I hear what you are saying. My dad was the chief of law enforcement of the game and fish for 25 years 1947-1972 so I was raised with the dept.In the old days it was my dad's dept.that conducted the drawings down on Adams.Anyone could draw out of the barrel, hand the envelope to dad's guys seated at the table, they would check for errors, and dad would call out the hunters name.We were putting in for all of the hunts and most of the time were unsuccessful. The exception was my dad's dispatcher-Gabby Blaser. He drew back to back sheep tags in the early 60's.Never killed one cause he couldn't shoot!!!!After that dad put in place the rule that if you had a tag-elk,antelope,sheep you had to set out 2 years, and would be elgible to apply the 3rd year.Gabby and Ben Avery were mad at him,and said that it was the luck of the draw.Dad agreed, but stated that he didn't have any luck at drawing. When dad retired in 1972 the dept.went to the computor drawing that cost the dept. 100 thousand the first year!!!They also did away with waiting until the 3rd year to apply.I don't know what the answer is as I only had 1 rifle antelope tag-1965.I agree with you, living here all your life should account for something.Cliff

No one deserves the ram more than Brian, this was the largest sheep to come out of the unit in the last 25 years!!!!!!I can't say enough good things about Brian, and his group. We shared info back, and forth, and I really feel blessed to have had Brian as the other hunter in the unit. We'll see you at the sheep banquet.Cliff

    Broadheads for Turkey

I had killed 4 turkeys with my bow up to last year. Most of them had been taken while setting water with 100 gr thunderheads.I had recovered them, but wasn't real happy as it was a chase, after the shot.Last spring I was able to harvest a big gobbler that had been called in by my friends.I used a 3 blade mechanical with a cutting area of 2 inches. The shot was 25yards through the back, and cut off part of the beard. We had an actual blood trail with pieces of his entrals, and kidney. He went about 50 yards.I'm going to try it again this year,
