  1. I just saw the biggest herd of pigs ever in 22. We weren't positive on the total as they kept moving and had several babies but 15 to 20 is the count we had. It was awesome. The wind was blowing from us to them, they had 3 at least who came to check us out and huffed, even circled us while huffing. The little buggers wouldn't leave. 15 minutes easy at anywhere from 15 yards to 30 all while not really caring if we spooked them (meaning we were not being stealthy at all, rather actually just standing and watching). To bad I had an elk tag.

  2. Some great info here guys. Out of all the tips and info posted if all you did was what Pine Donkey and Becker said over time you'd become a better glasser. Pretty sure this has been said already but I feel it should be said again and that is just because you don't see deer doesn't mean they are not there. I feel this is very important to remember when glassing and it helps keep you in a positive state of mind. For me staying mentally positive is almost as important as my optics and glassing technique. I try to remind myself the more I'm looking through the glass the greater my chances are that I'll find deer.

X2. If your in good country with sign, they are most likely there. Every time I finally take a long walk through the country I just glassed I am amazed at the cuts, deep washes and ravines out of visual range from where I was glassing. It takes persistence, timing and luck. However the harder you try the luckier you get.

  3. Thanks everyone for the responses and all the great information. Maximus, I found the older thread on glassing and the post by Coach. Definitely good stuff. Thanks. Adam, I will try giving you a call, thanks. Becker, thanks for the feedback. I also have some friends I hunt with. Adrian is young and he sat with me for 7 hours glassing from one spot while scouting, so he is game for whatever I throw at him. Allen, on the other hand, doesn't like/doesn't have a lot of patience for sitting for more than an hour or two in one spot to glass. Anyone have hunting partners like this? How do you hunt together?

Radios with ear plugs work great. If partner wants to wander across the ridge to glass it actually helps. Being able to chat and keep tabs is awesome. Having eyes on a buck you are working and can guide you is priceless. IMHO.

  4. I read this thread and scratch my head. Everyone expects others to be nice and to not touch their Camera...sounds like a bunch of Democrats.

I have had it with cameras on every waterhole I come across. We all like to walk a waterhole to get an idea of what is around but not to have our photo and video

    taken.

I visited 6 waterholes this last weekend, 2 in the wilderness of which one was 1.5 mi past the "barrier". Of course, most likely, the camera owner drove past the barrier and into the wilderness to access the camera.

My "camera Etiquette" has changed from acceptance to, If i had my 9mm with me I would have put multiple bullet holes in these cameras and most likely will the next time I am in the wilderness!

I believe it is a question of fair chase. Get out and pound the dirt to scout instead of a single camera providing 8,760 hours a year doing it for you!

Mighty high horse you have sir. You probably mount that high horse after you log off google earth, get into your cushy truck, use your gps, mount your quad, then finally hike with your fancy boots.. all for a chance to shoot a buck with your super fast bow and sight able to dial in 100 plus yards using your range finder. It's all just technology pal.

  5. That sucks.

For those that never thought of it… Just wanted to share an obvious thing the RV store told me when buying a hitch lock (I never thought about it). The lock that fills the ball area and clamps down is what you need. If you only lock the clamp shut with a padlock on top, all it takes is a 1.5" ball and the trailer weight to keep the tongue down. The smaller ball will fit in the ball cavity fine without opening the clamp. Then they go around the corner and cut the lock.
