I did not make it out this morning I will go out later this afternoon and look some more.It is in unit 31 BTW. Thanks for all the advice and offers for help. I will take the dog with me and see if can follow the scent. I am afraid he is long gone. The closest water source that I know of is about 3/4 mile uphill and the opposite direction of where he was last going, but I will try that also. Bobbyo, I think your second scenario is more likely. It is hard to see in this photo but the hair is more like you described. The fletching is pink so it is hard to see color correctly. The guts were about midway on the arrow. This is the blood where he laid down. and this is the only spot where i found any bloodtrail.

I did not find him. ... I could not find much a trail from the last place I saw him. I found some blood about 20yds from where he was bedded but nothing after that. I took my Dad with me and we covered a lot of ground. We just could not find blood. The terrain he was in does not show blood well, nearly every plant in the area has red on it. I am guessing he went a long ways after I jumped him up. I wish I would have given him more time after the shot and maybe he would of expired there. I may go out in the morning before work to look again but I don't know where I would look that I have'nt already plus I am freaken beat-down tired. This sucks... I wish I would have waited for a better shot. The thought of his slow death bothers me.

I should mention that it has rained most all day and it is still over cast and cool. I a waiting for my son to get off the bus and I will go back this evening.

WOW! That is a great buck and a great picture. Very impresive.

Well I got up early this morning and went to see if my cameras made it through the last week.Thank goodness they were right were I left them. The bucks are hitting the area pretty regular and they are still putting on some growth. I would be very happy if any one of these bucks walks in front of me next Friday. I am really getting pumped for the opener. I took a different route back to the truck and found this good omen. I added it to my collection

I usually try to get a jump on the other hunters by starting a week early. Actually I will be out friday 8/22/08.

This just plain sucks. I can't believe how many cams have been messed with lately. Just out of curiosity How far of a hike was it to your cam. Was it in an area with a lot of traffic, or off the beaten path? This is starting to worry me. I will check mine on monday I hope they are still there. I also have my blind already set up in the same area so i will be double scewed if someone finds it.

The mosquitos and nats are always bad during the Aug-Sep bow season. What does everyone else use to keep tham at bay? The last time I got drawn for archery elk I found some spray that had a earth cover scent. It seemed to work good but I can't seem to find it now. I have also tried the mesh netting over my face but I can't shoot my bow comfortably with it on. Does anyone have expierience with the therma cell stuff?

I have had several different bucks coming in over the last few weeks to this mineral site. There is also a lot of acorns already coming off the oaks in this area which is bringing them in. Hopefully there will still be some acorns left after Aug. 22 I have not seen any real whoppers but I am happy so far. here's a blacktail coues this little guy is doing the stomp, trying to scare off something This one is looking good

That is what I came up with also Amanda. I was surprised to find out they were venemous. I found it in the middle of the day on a hot day which was also strange, being a "night snake" and all.

Me and my son came upon this while checking the trail cam last week. My guess is that it got wedged in the fork of the tree when it was smaller Anyone else seen something like this before?
