    Best Tripod for the money???

I appreciate the generous offer. These forums really do have some great people. yes being taller does make things more challenging in life sometimes. The smaller compact tripod I have is a vanguard and I can say, I really like it. I also have a vortex full size and it’s been good but it’s a little light, which can be good sometimes but not in wind when standing. So for the next one I think something more robust and tall is in order.

    Best Tripod for the money???

Stand some, and sit in a chair. I have a smaller backpacking tripod I use for longer hikes so I don’t need to worry about even shorter use. I’m 6’4

Animas loses a local mentor/coach UPDATED!

Sounds like an amazing person. Animas had some great athletes/teams for such a middle of nowhere, hole in the wall, type of town. So many now days could use him as an example on how to lead. Our schools are filled with so many terrible coaches ruining more athletes than helping these days. So many kids never playing sports or quitting because of it. Great coaches, teachers, etc are worth more than any amount of money. If you’ve had either great or bad, or both, you definitely understand.

Never has, never will. At this point to anyone who thinks the virus isn't being politicized well beyond its actual danger is brain dead.

    MEOPTA vs SWARO???

This is true. But I don't think optics are as cut and dry as everyone wants to believe. With something dealing with the eyes, I think there's to many variables at play to honestly say one way or another. I'm no eye doctor but I be interested to know how eye conditions( eye glasses, Lasik, contacts, etc) between people play a factor in looking through various types of optics. Meopta, Swaro, Zeiss, Leica, and a few others are not cheap for a reason( I want to try the Meoptas or even the Sig Zulu 9s myself) but if someone made better glass then all of them and it was cheaper, would people honestly admit or acknowledge it?? Interesting to see
  14. I have been wanting for a few years now to get a new hunting rifle. I am traditional in the fact I love the old wood stock, sporter barrel type rifles. So I want to stay in that area. I know they are not as long range( sporter barrel) as some custom guns or as practical, due to the wood stock, but I’m willing to live within those limitations to get what I want. With that said, I know they are capable, if set up right, of delivering great shooting as well. This would be a 500 yard rifle or less, possibly out to 6-700 yards on a rare occasion. What I’d look to do or get is , freefloated barrel, possible muzzle break, bedded action, tuned or lightened trigger. I would like to stay in a common caliber but would consider others. Maybe 7 rem mag, 257 wby, etc. No wildcat rounds. Deer, for sure, and elk gun depending on caliber. I’ve looked at Winchester model 70s and Browning’s, and weatherbys to start. Nothing is set. Any suggestions, thoughts?

Tikkas are amazing. I think highly underrated as well. A few scratches, nicks and dings don’t bother me. If anything the stock isn’t holding me back, it’s the lighter sporter barrel but I don’t see that as a handicap. I just have to hunt by what it’s capable of and I’m ok with that.

It’s great to see people still into these types of rifles. I’m also kicking around spending the money on my current Win Model 70 270 wsm and doing some upgrades and getting a new rifle later. Yes I was kicking around another rifle when I had what I was asking for, lol. What can I say, I like guns and what’s wrong with more options!! I still like the idea of having a 7mag or some of the calibers you guys suggested. I also wondered if rebarreling my current setup would make a difference from say a factory 24 to 26 inch. So it boils down to buy a new or newer to me gun Now or spend the money on improvements on my current rifle and get another gun sometime down the road

Tikka is impressive. I sold a 223 T3Lite years ago and have regretted it ever since. It was ridiculously accurate right out of the box shooting factory ammo

Desire to shoot, most definitely. I love to just shoot for the sake of shooting. Time can be an issue but I’d adjust. I’ve been shooting since I was a kid. So understanding that longer ranges requires more trigger time and or upgraded equipment doesn’t escape me. And no doubt, breaks can be unpleasant.

    Sig Sauer BDX Combo Kit

I’ve just bought one of there rangefinders. 2200bdx. We will see how it does when I get it. I’ve seen lots on this forum saying good things about them. The scope and rangefinder integrated thing is interesting.

    Sig Sauer BDX Combo Kit

Just discovered this system a few days ago. Seems like a good concept. Also seen Sig has there own 15s now as well, Sig Zulu 9. I admit when a company tries jumping into other things( ammo, optics, whatever) from there bread and butter( pistols in Sigs case), it seems like they don’t do as well and just want to sell gimmicks off there name. However, Sig has really seemed to put some good quality stuff out. I really like there ammo and now the optics really seem to be coming along.

    Stocking schedule/ Wht Mtn reports?

I looked but couldn’t or didn’t see anything that said the stocking schedules changed. so I assume the Game and fish stocked as usual? How was the fishing this weekend with all the hoards of people out? Heading up Tuesday as I always avoid Memorial weekend travel and outings as much as possible.
