My New 1000 yard F-Class Rifle

    Angie does it again!

great pics; great story. what gun and load??
  4. Good- i bought a near new 25-06 sendero stainless fluted maybe 5 years ago. took the barrel off. had my smith put a fluted krieger. took the rem trigger and sold it for 40. bought a shilen for 79. installed it myself. not easy like a jewel or timney. my 300 sendero is factory excecpt the trigger . jewel. i actually like the shilen better except the installation. the senedero/hs stock is not as good as a Mcmilan A-2,3,4,5. it is a solid stock . considering the number of coues shooters in the east valley i would think more shoot at the rio salado matches.
  5. kreiger barrel +300 , thread and chamber +150. sell original barrel -150. adjust trigger myself. leave factory stock. leave action as is. my gunsmith does not do anything to the action. why would he? mine shoot real good that way. wanna shoot come out to rio on sat march 19th?? bring some money. the 300$ for me is a time and component($$) saving investment. i live 136 miles from ben avery. everything shoots good. load shoot.
  6. barrel? twist ? length? action? there is a guy on 24hourcampfire (scenar shooter) that has killed a lot with the 155 scenar and the 308. big mulies big elk lots of pics of clients. i have only used the scenars on targets so far ( 1600+). killed a coues (196) and a coyote (419) with the 120 balistic tip. i use lapua brass. rcbs dies. i have 8.5 kriegers. my brother has 8 kriegers.
  7. Can't disagree with that. some savages are not baD. i shoot against savages all the time with my REMINGTON 700. i enjoy it. Grin.
  8. i load for two, my brother has three, my son in law has one. i shot a coues with 120 balistic tip. 49.5 h-4350. i did not get good accuracy with the 140 berger. the 123 and 139 scenar have been excellent. i have used mrp-2, mrp, h-4350. h-4831sc did not get good accuracy. what rifle? what scope?? we shoot in the various F-class matches in the valley.( desertsharshooters.com.) perfect warm up for coues . you get to shot more than one round per year.

    Questions, Questions and More Questions

desert- the rifle is more important than the caliber. the remington sendero or a winchester laredo are great rifles . i suggest a 7mmrm or a 300win ( you can load these two down). . start reloading. i would not get a 308. i would not "share brass" from one gun to another. get on longrangehunting.com and 6mmbr . get a sendero add a vais, a good scope ; adjust the trigger you are ready to start. for practice there are matches at rio salado, prgc, and ben avery. look on desertsharpshooters.com for dates/times.
  11. 7mms-one of mine is a sendero/ krieger barrel ; the other is a 1968 adl 24". the 215gm primer gave higher veloctiy and higher pressure and higher sd. Everything shot good in the krieger/sendero. some real good especially the 168's. i have shot a lot of 139 horn as high as 3275 with h-4831( 69.0) in the adl. thought that load was was great; until i shot 140 berger and 140 accubond about a month ago. i use h-4831 and h-4831sc. usually rem9.5m primers. i will have to check amount of powder, it was around 3200fps. 200 yards the adl shot less than 2". one group at one hundred went into .112; 140 accubond and 140 berger.

    Time to Pick a Fight

i suggest a 6.5 -284. i shoot often in the f-class matches in phx and mesa. they are the perfect warm up for rifle hunting coues whitetailes. i have never shot against a . 270 or a browning a-bolt. i would like to. grin

    Feral hogs in Arizona

wards- how many are down there?? it seems to me that the conditions of a dry state, lots of predators, and lots of hunters with bows and 7mm mags and a season year round with no limit that any feral hogs in az are not going to become a "problem".

    You Decide...

hunterX- the video is removed. i would have liked to see it. i have repeatedly invited the hunters/shooters here to shoot in the f-class matches at rio salado (500 yards) and (600) and PRGC(500). there may be some matches in tucson also. it is a "great" way to see what you/rifle are capable of. wards obviously has been doing some serious shooting down near wilcox. wards that is a great pic. great shooting and skill by gabe. i must be old because while i have rifles that look like gabes i think the one on the left is prettier. not having seen the vid what can i say ? the more you shoot the better you will understand your limits , doesn't matter if i is a bow, musket, handgun, rifle. i shoot a lot , 500 yard shot on a target the size of a coues is challenging/ tough. shoot a ten shot group at 500 with your coues rifle and see what it looks like . very educational. roninflag
  16. while i like my leup mark 4; i have a couple other scopes that work real well. a bushnell elite i paid 400 for and a vortec i paid 260 for.

    Winchester 300 Win. Mag.

the gun is more important than the caliber. the barrel is most important. the us army markmanship unit uses a rem 700 300 wm for 1000 yard competition

    New rifel

ClintH- i usuaully carry those inexpensive puffs in my pockets to put in my ears. i don't get drawn that much so one or two shots a year in the field at big game. . i shoot my whitetaile rifle at lot of f-class matches and i believe that is a great way to tune your rifle and yourself. i have never shot against a .270 or a 257r. 30-06 and 260, and 308 are common though.

    New rifel

deserthhnt- my experience with the 300wm is diefferent for yours. the us army marksmanship unit shoots the 300 wm in rem 700 for their 1000 yards matches. it is a very accurate round. my m70 shot .27, .31 and .35 @ 100 yards last time took it to the range, my son in law shot a 15 shot group at 1000yards with my sendero you could cover with sheet or notebook paper . with the muzzle breaks they kick less thana 257 roberts. the 300 wm has a lot of good bullets and brass( norma, lapua , nosler , rws) available. you handload it down to 3000 fps with a 168cbt and take anything; yet kick less than a 243. i shoot in f-clss matches at both rio salado and ben avery with my coues rifle. i feel it is a good way to wring it out. i have shot agaisnt savages, surgeon , bat and some others, never a ruger. never a .270 or a 257r. young - i always say the gun is more important than the caliber. the 300 wm is plenty for me. roninflag

no. i would get either a .257 weatherby accumark witha 26 inch barrel and add a vais. or i would get remington 700 sedero in either 7mm ot 264 mag and add a vais.

    CHECK OUT WEATHERBYS LATEST CREATION

if the .257 came with a 26 inch barrel i would have one already.
