    Winchester 300 Win. Mag.

the gun is more important than the caliber. the barrel is most important. the us army markmanship unit uses a rem 700 300 wm for 1000 yard competition

    New rifel

ClintH- i usuaully carry those inexpensive puffs in my pockets to put in my ears. i don't get drawn that much so one or two shots a year in the field at big game. . i shoot my whitetaile rifle at lot of f-class matches and i believe that is a great way to tune your rifle and yourself. i have never shot against a .270 or a 257r. 30-06 and 260, and 308 are common though.

deserthhnt- my experience with the 300wm is diefferent for yours. the us army marksmanship unit shoots the 300 wm in rem 700 for their 1000 yards matches. it is a very accurate round. my m70 shot .27, .31 and .35 @ 100 yards last time took it to the range, my son in law shot a 15 shot group at 1000yards with my sendero you could cover with sheet or notebook paper . with the muzzle breaks they kick less thana 257 roberts. the 300 wm has a lot of good bullets and brass( norma, lapua , nosler , rws) available. you handload it down to 3000 fps with a 168cbt and take anything; yet kick less than a 243. i shoot in f-clss matches at both rio salado and ben avery with my coues rifle. i feel it is a good way to wring it out. i have shot agaisnt savages, surgeon , bat and some others, never a ruger. never a .270 or a 257r. young - i always say the gun is more important than the caliber. the 300 wm is plenty for me. roninflag

    Powder for Berger VLDs

YOUNGBUCK- my 7mm shoots everything good; especially the 168 bergers. i use h-4831 in it. nosler brass. either 9.5m or wlrm primers. my brothers 300 rums required a little more work. he uses a lot of re-25 , nosler brass and 180 accubond; 215m primers. you don't say what rifles . there is more info on longrangehunting.com and 24hourcampfire too.

    Wolves by Payson AZ

the area where wolves are a problem have declining elk herds and other problems. our elk herd is expanding. when you shoot a cow elk it is almost like shooting three elk. in az we shoot a LOT of cow elk. also the wolves in az besides few in number; are not as very good at catching their own wild meals. historically they were mostly loners and preyed on coues. the ones on idaho, montana , wyo are way different.

    .264 Winchester Mag loads?

reloadersnest and longrangehunting are other sources. my brother uses re-25 and h-1000 in his .264 . older guns- my sakos from 1966 are unbelieveable. the triggers , barrels/accuracy, wood to metal fit. 46 years and they do not make factory rifles like that.

CHEF- my son( utah) went to oklahoma for the holidays with his new bride to the in- laws ranch. they have wild pigs, whitetaile deer and turkey ( not sure if they a rio or eastern) on the ranch. the pigs are considered vermin and left . i told him to shoot one of each including the pigs. they are better than the deer and turkey. what say ye??

Hot do I kill this beast

if you hold em i will check the gender. with cats you need to be real close to tell. same with bears more or less. females have a smaller "home" range which is still quite large. 10 to 50 mi
  23. if i was putting the time and money to get a barrel installed i would a get a krieger or equivalent

    hunters shot at in 36B

three of us hunted in 36b on the early rifle hunt. saw no illegal immigrants. we all carry a remington senderos good to over 1000 yards. NO ONE would shoot over our heads. i did not feel threatened. saw a lot of border patrol though. 2 out of three got a buck. coues are a fairly small and challenging target.
