    New muzzleloader... Need help!!!

BH209 is not an approved powder for the 700 UML, because of the gas cutting issue. When I was looking into getting mine, I found a few reports of cutting happening inside of 50 shots, with accuracy going to shoot immediately afterwards. I do not have the conversion in front of me, but i believe 120gr by weight of BH209 is equal to a 200gr by volume charge of black powder, which is the max load for the 700 UML.

San Diego, The rest of the story

Had that exact setup on a 8' spinning rod that I caught the BFT on, specifically for that task. Issue was they were going under 100 yards out, and with anything heavy enough to cast that far, it shut them down the moment it hit the water (with very few exceptions). Definitely learned a ton on this trip, and plan on having a 9' (or longer) casting rod set up for this next year to chuck the lightweight stuff out there far enough. And let's just not discuss the cost of this hobby...(already looking at getting my own CC).

    New muzzleloader... Need help!!!

Yes, he is the owner of Arrowhead Rifles. Used to be Arrowhead Sporting Goods. He makes a solid product and is a pleasure to work with. Was able to drive out to him and he got everything switched out, head spaced, and back on my way within about 20 minutes.

Cannot go wrong with the RUML. If you plan on shooting BH209, then you need to get Levi's breech plug. I have no issues with the accuracy of my factory barrel, and that is with shooting 300gr SST's. Picked up some Fury Star Tip 2's and will be working up a load for those. If you do replace the barrel, look at going to a 375 caliber smokepole. Levi can line you out on all you need to know in that regards as well.

San Diego 4th of July Suggestions

I'll be on the Constitution for that weekend, if you are looking to carpool or want to talk coues hunting back home while moving spots. BFT is tough no matter what, but every report I am hearing points to more fish in the water than anyone has seen in our lifetime. It is just a matter of getting on a school that wants to play and having the gear to play ball with them.

    What’s everyone hoping for...

Just a BP across the board for myself this year. Got two youth elk hunts lined up, and helped a junior (20C Youth, 24B Oct or late Nov hunts) and a lady (36's) put in for their first deer hunts.
  8. Join the Brian Enos forums and post on their classifieds section. Tons of 3-gun shooters over there that would jump on that. Great scope, btw.
  9. Or get a packable rod and never worry about the stock.
  10. If you plan on shooting BH209 out of it, I recommend having the breach plug swapped out. Awesome ML's otherwise.

Never had an issue with not crimping my AR loads. I suggest using small base dies.

Cali Fishing Early Feb - Recommendations?

Best bet would be to call some of the landings and see if they have any boats going out. Do not think the Rockfish or Lincod season opens until the end of February.
  13. Curious to know which breech plug you switched to from the originals?

    Glassing Chair

I've gone through several chairs, including the walkstool, and have been using a legless chair similar to the REI Trail Chair for about 6 years now. I like it because the side straps help provide back support, which is an issue for me with backless tripod style chairs. The fact it is a half pound lighter, or more, than all the tripod chairs is an added bonus.

  16. Heading down in the morning to scout out a new area, and was curious if anyone knew of any access issues, and current road conditions, getting back into Brush Corral trail head and Davis Spring trail head? Thanks.

    Opinions on Husqvarna Rancher 450

Used my 455 Rancher w/20" bar to cut over a dozen cords of wood each of the 3 years I lived in Gunnison, CO. Never had any issues, just adjusted for elevation changes and normal maintenance. Never owned a Stihl so I cannot compare, so cannot compare the two, but I know a ton of folks who run them. Solid bet either way.

    Smoker recomendations

I have had an electric smoker, 3 different offset box smokers, a WSM barrel smoker, and a Traeger pellet smoker. I am currently looking to move into either a MAK 1 star or Yoder YS640 pellet smoker. Enjoyed nothing about the electric smoker. Loved the smoke flavors of the box smokers (especially when I had my property and own supply of mesquite), but I messed up many of my longer smokes due to not waking up often enough to maintain the temp. The barrel smoker and Traeger were both smaller than I wanted, but I love the ease of using a pellet smoker, hence why I am looking for a MAK or Yoder. I still have my weber gas grill for searing and grilling, and should I ever decide to get rid of it, would likely just get a hibachi.

I went out on the El Dorado out of Long Beach this past weekend, all the way out to Tanner Bank on a 1-day trip. Tons of whitefish and rockfish, but only two YT and two Bonito, Itching bad to head down to San Diego next week.
