couldnt help my self when i seen 3 mulie bucks and five does scaterd over a hill side paired up, i put about a 300 yrd stalk in and started playin ring around the bushes with him his doe and her 2 fawn, when it finaly happend i was stoped planin my next moove after 1 of the fawns busted me when out at 70yrds i watched the 2 fawns run thrue a 5yrd gap in brush so when the doe steped out i drew knowing the buck should b next and she busted me and just stoped and stared, the buck then came out and started nudging her in the but 2 move her along and i thumped him, i hit a little far back and just single lunged him but the blood was dark so i gave it 20 min befor i even mooved i folowed blood for maby 5yrds just see'n what kinda blood i had and i busted him outa bed so i let him walk a little ways, backed out and found him daybreak the next mornin maby 120yrds from where he was hit (i fliped and floped all night only slept 4hrs) gota love those rage 2blades, old buck though with lots of old scars and a few new wounds from fightin any gestements on what he'd score? sorry for the lack of field photos but my camera craped out on me that mornin

not mutch to brag on but i did finaly draw a tag ang get my first elk with a bow. opening day i sat all day on a water hole well off the beatin path come about 5:30 2 nice bulls started fightin behinde me, the bull on the winning side drove his cows down the hill but not 2 the pond, i turned around and stood up just as the bull and my cow came out and busted me drawing, held for a min-min 1/2 till the bull mooved off and the cow took 2 steps, her vitals not behinde a tree any more i let my arow fly at 40yd's hitting a little high, the rage took out 2 ribs on entry a chunk out of 1 verdabray and another rib on the way out,she went about 80 yrds and fell dead over an old log. we had 2 tags in my camp both filled opening day. spent the rest of the weekend relaxing in camp and doin a lil drinkin with the family and frinds that showed up 4 my hunt if u look at the bottom pic u can c where my facemask ended and the greas paint begins, probaly shoulda wiped it off befor the pick

holy ...........censored.............,i think id rather see that deer than bigfoot -
id use a ruber blunt instead of some of small game points, they seem to take more of the impact and save u a few arrows

What tricks have you learned from other in camp?
azdesert rat replied to scoutm's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
picked up how 2 cook in a dutch oven dig a hole about 5 or 6 in deeper than ur oven is tall, make 2 fire useing hard wood, 1 in the pit and 1 right next to it, once u got 2 good piles of coals put oven in cover with coals then dirt (leave the handle up for eas of findein and remooving) and when u get back from ur after noon hunt diner is ready my favorite is roast, brown ur roast over the fire with a lil oil and sesonings, add onions potatoes clove garlic green chile (prettymutch any vegies) fill with watter till its about an inch over the roast throw in the pit cover and let cook between 2 1/2-4hrs (depending on coals and size of roast) put in befor the after noon hunt and it'll warm pretty any time u happen 2 get back that night -
burgerhouse all the way there red and regular burrow is my crack, although most of the other places arent anything 2 sneez at

24b for me -
im a bit of a prankster so ive got a few, one of my favorite is any time i take frinds(the cityfied ones) i take my electric call and palce it out side the tent and fire it up about bed time, yote pups and yote howls over laped, its fun to see the reactions, for some reson there a lil spooky when comes to yotes, one we still talk about is i took my frinde out huntin quail for the first time so he was usin my old youth 20ga and my old vest, witch he's a big ol boy so my vest was so tigh he couldnt hardly get it off and i had to put his birds in for him, well we were in some thick brush and he miss's this cotontail, but he swears he hit it, so i give my lab the comand to finde it, well he catches this damb rabit and brings it to me, so i act like i wrang its neck and i stuck it in his vest, well abot 5 min later that rabit came back to life jumpin andd scratchin, and he was doin the same jumpin and yellin tryin to get the vest off, after many trys he gets it off he smashes the vest with the bigest rock he could pick up. i couldnt even stand up i was laughin so hard

where are ferral hogs in the state? the only ferral critters ive seen is burrows and im almost positive there protected, but ive ben rollin around the idea of goin to texas to hunt ferral hogs but if we've got'em in az id rather hunt them here
-
i spot and stalk with some sucses, but my favorite is if i know the area and the trails ill try to cut them off, kinda like elk huntin, it dosent always work but when it does its nice cals ther comin to u so thers less of a chance of being busted cals ur not mooving, dont know if its the best tacktic but its something ive ben doin for a few years and have had suckses with it. as for time of year i like january the deer are mooving
-
i think it definatly do the trick if u used cci's explosive rounds, witch is just a hollow point, but it blows a real good sized hole. i dont think its legal, if not it should be it's prety much a collared down 22mag, thats something id call game and fish on thoug

here's the story behinde my question, i cut off a big buck running a doe (an easy 100+ buck, the buck dreams are made of) well i was watchin and the doe ran past at maby 10yrds i drew back and waited, he came thrue and stoped maby 15yrds a way, and he had me busted with my mask down, all he new was somethin wasent right, well he was quartering too prety hard, so instead of trying to sneek an arrow between the front legs i waited we stared at each other for a good 30 sec or better witch felt like a life time, i was hopin that as ive had many deer do he'd take a couple slow steps befor taking off and i could drill him broad side, instead he took off like he had a lion on his tail and i watched him run till he disapeared over a ridge, so help me out, was i right on passing on the shot or did i mess up the chance of a lifetime, i need some input its ben keeping me up at night
-
quartering too shots, ethical or not
azdesert rat replied to azdesert rat's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
well i wouldn't of had a problem with the shot i just thought id be beter to wait for a broadside shot, ive just ben kickin myself for not takin the shot but hine sight is 20/20, as far as my set up im still shootin my 60lb pse witch is 4 or 5 yrs old, and i shoot G5 montec's for the simple reson that with the sharpened back side if i dont get a pass through it'll slice and dice a lil beter wile roling around in the chest cavety, my other thalt was that if i hit him and couldnt finde him id tear me up to waste such a beutiful deer -
i agree that pepole using pallets is an ugly way to do it, especaly since they never remove them, but if the blinde is built right it should look natural and not obvious or "adding to the natural beauty of a tank", and as far as cuting brush i keep away from it as much as posible, using mostly dead brush and maby a few small leafy branches usualy weeds, grass, or ferns, plants that will die and regrow durin the year. dont the criters get a lil leary of a pop up considering 1 day thers a small tree and the next thers what apears to be a giant mass of brush?
-
is it just me or has every 1 gone to some kinde of synthetic blinde, it may just b me but i think its kinda the easy way out (opinion), instead of cuting brush and buildin from whats around? dont get me wrong i dont have a problem with pepole using them, it just seem like pepole have forgoten how to do it the old school way, i havent seen a fresh blinde in a couple years. i dont know maby its just me being hard headed about switching, i just havent heard any one talkin about it, so i thalt id mention it and see what pepole had to say
-
if u think it'll jump up shoot it agin if its just kikin around put one foot on head and slit throat, my pops is natorious for doing this, even though he's getin a lil old to be doin this, he did it this year on our rifle hunt
-
i drew an archery pig tag for 24b for january, ive scouted campain wash from nunsuch to blackbrush and seen verry minimal sign, scouted around queen valey but havent ever seen pigs in there, so if thers any one who has any info it'd b greatly apriciated.
-
