    First archery hunt

This January I had the opportunity to go on my first archery hunt for Coues deer, well for that matter my first archery hunt for anything. I have recently started hunting and i have been very fortunate to have a good friend guiding me and teaching how to hunt. We started preparing for this hunt late November and have put in many hours of driving and scouting. The hunt started with three days of sitting my stand and for the first two not seeing a thing accept for a lot of javelina. finally on the third day a doe and fawn show up at about 2pm. shortly after another doe. the first two left but not 15 minutes later 3 more does showed up. just as soon as they got to my stand i see another deer come running into my stand, a spike. The spike sat 20 yards in front of me for 30 minutes as i debated about shooting. one more spike came to join the group before the wind changed and i was busted. I had to go back to work work for a few days before i could go back down and they were the longest three days of work in my life. I beat myself up all week for not shooting the spike. Thursday night setting up camp in 60mph winds for my last few days of hunting i especially regretted not taking the spike. I sat my stand Friday in the rain and sleet, nothing. We woke up Saturday with 4-5 inches of snow, i was optimistic that the snow would do something good. Saturday morning started off with 3 different groups of javelina. I got out of my stand for lunch and was back in it at 2pm. I spooked 3 does out getting in to my stand, 20 minutes later 3 javelina. about 30 minutes later the javelina closest to me was looking to my left and his hair was on end. first a doe walks out into my view 10 yards below me then a buck in tow. I grab my bow and i begin to draw, i did not want to wait to see who would win a stand off the pigs or deer. At 3/4 draw i realize i forgot to take off my glommet and i do not have a finger to pull the release with so i retract, take my glove of and re draw. he was at about 15 yards and quartering away. I let it fly and he was down in less than 30 yards, i could barely see him through the branches. after the shot the buck fever set in and i could not breath. it was one of the most wonderful experiences i have had. I will never forget this hunt and i am hooked for life. I could not have done it without the help of my friend Chris.
