  1. Both can be great hunts. The early hunt scouting is much more effective before the deer move down to the winter range, but harder to kill as most of the time deer are in the pines during the hunt. On the late hunt scouting is much harder to do until right before the hunt as the bucks are moving, yet you are hunting rutting mule deer and some days it is off the charts. Depending on how many points you have, would determine what I would tell you to do. If less than 6-7 points I would tell you to do 12AW late first choice and 12AW early second choice. If you have 10+ points you might want to wait for a 12AW late tag as your only choice.

I hope that helps. You can send me an email directly if you want to see some pictures from both hunts last year @ shoot@highpointoutfitters.net

Don't loose the faith on getting an elk tag, still a few days before it is all over with credit cards. Good luck in the draw.

  2. You are correct your group would go in with 9 points.

It is my understanding, since you applying as a group application you stay as a group. Because you are applying with a Non-resident your application follows the NR rules which would not let either of you draw the 5th tag.

    I hope that helps.

  3. High Point Outfitters started the season off this year by teaming up with Pronghorn Guide Service to put a true Arizona giant on the ground. Rob Walsh obtained the statewide Arizona auction tag. Thanks to Rob for his contribution to Arizona Antelope. Here is Rob's antelope.

  4. I am not sure where the time goes in the fall! People have been asking to see some pictures of the elk HPO clients killed this year so I thought I would get these posted.

We started off the year just like we did last year by guiding the lucky winner of the Statewide Super Raffle elk hunter. This year Steve Holten was the lucky raffle hunter. We sure enjoy guiding these raffle hunters! Here is Steve's bull.

  6. Sorry for the delay in my response. It is a busy time of year with the elk draw results just a few weeks away and with elk bone dropping we are out hitting it. We hunt all of the units in Northern Arizona. With all of us living in Flagstaff it is pretty easy for us to be in all of the good elk units. Ben's hunt was in unit 10 last year. We do all of the hunts in unit 10 for both elk and antelope along with many of the other units. I hope this helps. We got a pile of snow over the past few days which will make for some great antler growth over the next few months. Thanks for your interest in HPO

  7. Beaner,

We like units 10 and 5B the best, but also hunt the other units that hold good goats. You are getting real close to getting a tag. Here are some pictures of one of our clients from last year in unit 10. The goat officially scored 84 7/8's and is 18 6/8's tall.

Come and enjoy a hunt with us this year.
