Hunting this hunt and unit for 20 years and I got my tag , my buddy and his son did not, got his stuff back saying unsuccessful , hunt full. It has been historically a hunt that did not fill and you could get a leftover tag easily. I guess I will be expecting 799 other hunters with me. Any ideas on why this hunt sold out? Just curious.

No , he is a resident and has joined me on the hunt for most of the last 20 years. Just think it odd that his notice said: 'unsuccessful ' if there were leftover tags. Jim

+1 and 20 yrs hunting 36B. It is G-ds country and I have no desire to look at another unit. It is spectacular. Congrats on a great buck.

I am sickened with the violence. I cringe when a gun is involved. Seems like 'crazy' is happening to an awful number of people , they can not be 'right in the head'. The proliferation of the gun violence is bound to cause a ' legislative reaction' at some point. It seems it is a mental health issue. My prayers and thoughts for all who have suffered in this dispicable act.

I got back from my Oct. Coues hunt to learn of my Uncles sudden illness . Was home a day and got on the plane for N.Y. in hopes of seeing him before he passed . I made it , I had about 5 hours with him . He would open his eyes a little bit , couldn't speak , however I would like to believe he heard me talk about all the times we shared at our cabin. Uncle Art was one of those guys who lived to hunt . My first deer was taken from ' Arts' chair ' by the 'Jim Green' swamp. My second deer was one he burned during a drive and I got him. My 3rd was another he pushed to me . We built many a stand together , always disagreeing with the exact placement. I guess you get the point that he was there for me. As we aged , I was the one pushing to him and gutting and dragging his deer. Over the years , he had both hips replaced , his electrical system for the heart go haywire , enough so that they would have to stop his heart and restart it to get him back in rhythm. I never heard him complain , he would just talk about the next season. It kept him going . After a particularly strong infection in one of his hips , he put a nail in the bottom of his cane and there he was , going through ice and snow and rocks to get his his stand. He was climbing into tree stands at age 82 , much to my worry. I was always amazed with his excitement with the hunt. He was active in all of the hunting federations in his area , was involved with the 'white deer ' in northern N.Y. he owned a gun shop for many years after he retired . He traded for a new rifle only a few days before he went into the hospital. My dad , his older brother, also gone , bought my first .22 from him , a single shot Ithaca , my first deer rifle , a used marlin 30 30 and I bought all of my new guns from him. He talked guns and hunting 24/7/365. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict( war) and the only things he told me about it was how cold he was and being shot at and returning fire. He lost his son , my cousin in '78 to a motorcycle accident and it was many years before he could talk about it. If there is one consolation to his passing , it is that he will see Mark again. This N.Y. deer season will be my first without him. I will toast him often at the cabin this year and shed some tears at his passing and while life will go on , it will be with a little less spark for me . We used to speak every week to ten days , always about the cabin , hunting and guns. I am so incredibly sad. Jim

bonecollector, I am the designated driver (only in the woods). Several years ago , after 4 drives , Uncle Art asked for another . It was decided if he wanted it , he could do it . Thus , we headed back to the cabin for libations. He had no quit in him when it came to hunting. thank you all for the sentiments.

Heading out of the valley on Tuesday morning and will be there until the following Tuesday morning. Looking for some cool weather in addition to bambis' father.

Bob, Would have liked to have you out with us again. Saw 17 deer , 2 illegals ( undocumented aliens) and there has got to be over a hundred head of cattle about a mile in from the Ruby Rd. Will keep you posted on the success of the hunt . Jim

Leaving the valley around 3:30 in the morning to do some 36B scouting. Way excited to get going. In one week the boys come in from the east coast and we head out on the 23rd for the hunt. It is the best time of year and only hoping we do not have the 90 degree weather we had last year. Gotta say, I live for the hunt and all that goes with it. Jim

One shot , I grew up in Orange and the family owned an apple orchard in the Pine Bush area . I believe the New York bow season opens on the 1st this year. I still hunt my property in Sullivan Co. the last week of gun. It was 36 degrees at the cabin Friday morning .Good fortune on your hunt. Jim

All of my friends had received their tag for the hunt we drew and mine still had not arrived . My oldest stopped by the house the other night and came through the front door holding my tag with an attached business card. Seems our bankrupt USPS delivered to the wrong address and thankfully it was delivered to a hunter who dropped it off on my front door. I called him the next morning with many thanks and chatted about the hunt. Good stuff. Anybody else would have thrown it back into the mailbox stating wrong address and who knows where it would have ended up . A shout out to a fellow hunter.

We camp in the unit , 2-4 guys, I probably would not camp by myself. Always have a handgun close.

I got my results early this morning, 36B and now my buds can not log on.

Well as a father ( 5 kids) and grandfather(8) , I always taught the value of patience , somehow the lesson was lost on me. Finding it difficult to not log onto the AZGFD site every 2 minutes, jeez, got to let it go.

Not sure about the seriousness of the threads , however, about 6 years ago during the early coues hunt one of our party killed a lion and saw another in the same location. We often see tracks and always have a lion tag with us . My brother saw one last year and could not get a shot. maybe about 12 years ago, Field and Stream had an article , picture heavy of lion hunting with dogs in Hells Gate , great story , dogs being thrown of the side of the canyon by the lion. Gentlemen and ladies, I will be making french fries for a charity event on March 11th and could use another 3 or 4 burners to cook on. I have 2 and would appreciate any one who would be willing to loan me the use of 2 more . I do not need the gas tanks or hoses. I would be willing to drive just about anyplace in the valley to pick them up and return them . Please PM me or let me know if anyone has a willingness to let me borrow them. OK , I got it figured out . Got the deer on Saturday and our camp visitors came through while packing up yesterday morning. Only saw one other buck , a small fork . The total count for what we saw was : Illegals - 26 Deer - 21 Lion - 1 Coyotes - 2 Javelina - got tired of counting.

Sounds good other than I am hunting New York 12/1-12/11. Any other time . BTW , l liked your story Vegasjeep

Being the luddite I am , I seem to only be able to post one pic at at time. Got this guy Saturday afternoon . Long hot walk back to the camp. had a great hunt with my buddy from N.J. , this was his 18th year coming out for the hunt and my brother from Tx. joined us for the first time.

Yes sir, on the way out we let BP know what we knew. Kinda funny , until yesterday morning we had BP come thru us 4 or 5 times a day and two nights before they picked up one about a hundred yards from us , we watched them handcuff and put him in the dog cage on the back of the pick up.
