  1. Up to the point where the bullet becomes unstable, likely in the trans sonic range, it pretty much boils down to the shooter.

    Accuracy Issue *Update*

If sanding does the trick, be sure to put some type of waterproof finish on the sanded areas.
  3. Got curious, so I timed myself trimming 100 .308 cases. Took just over 10 minutes.
  4. I put my WFT in a drill press and its amazingly quick. Where did you read that they are not adjustable? Mine are set up for a particular parent case type, say 243 thru 308 or 25-06 thru 30-06 for example, as they index off of the shoulder, but are adjustable for trim length.
  5. Isn't the head space set on a Savage by the barrel nut? Any chance that has moved?

    H4350

H4350 users might want to check at Bruno's this morning...
  7. Wife and I do like our mountain bikes. Cutting edge carbon for her, old school titanium for me.
  8. How about these? Just kidding, I only get to drive these once a year at West World

    Solo Rifle

This would be a coin toss between my two backpack rifles as buffalo is not on the criteria list... 6.5-06 Pre 64 M70 action, Rock #2 1-8, McMillan Hunters Edge, Jewell Trigger, bullets depending on game. I would switch from the 10x Mark 4 back to the 2.5x8 CDS Leupold and be at 7.75 pounds. 30-06 Pre 64 M70 Featherweight, factory 1-10 barrel, tuned factory trigger, McMillan Hunters Edge, 155.5 to 200 grain bullets, 2.5x8 Leupold, 7.4 pounds. Could also make do with my .257 Roberts custom Mauser, but it is heavier at 8.3 pounds and not as weather resistant... Edit: with buffalo on the list, my 30-06 is the clear winner for me. Bought it with buffalo in mind actually. I don't hunt javelina with a rifle, but a handloaded 30-06 would work fine.
  12. Spin rate decays at a much lower rate than velocity, and it would be unusual for it to be a factor in long range accuracy issues. Velocity spreads are definitely a factor as range extends, causing vertical dispersion.

    Need a Good Gunsmith

Lots of potential there. I do think it looks like a military 98 of some flavor due to the stripper clip charging hump on the rear bridge and what looks like a left side rail thumb notch. They can be fixed up pretty nice...

    Gutsy...Can you find it.

Neat, probably the same one that trotted about 25 yards in front of the 500 yard firing point after we finished shooting a few Fridays back. Have seen a big desert iguana near the 200 yard line as well. Have you been able to get the 127 LRXs to shoot?

    Loading Barnes Bullets?

I'd try a faster powder than H1000 in your 6.5x55. I changed from R22 to H4350 in my .270 to get the 130 Tsx's to shoot well. I think the quicker burn at the same ultimate pressure level lets the all copper bullets bump up (obturate) to get a better gas seal sooner... I use H4831SC with the 127LRX in my 6.5-06. I'd try that or H4350. I doubt the twist would show up as a problem in the current temperatures.

2010... time flies! You may not remember me Tom, but I helped glass on your hunt at the beginning. You tagged a good ram for the unit. 15 days makes for that many more memories... Mike
  18. Regarding action/barrel inlet for aftermarket stocks, the post 64 long action with 2 piece hinged floorplate and factory sporter barrel contour should work. If your rifle has no floorplate, but just a trigger guard, there are stocks available for that configuration as well. Of course if you are re-barreling, you will want to match that barrel contour.

  20. Thanks, they are pretty trick irons...
  21. At the range this afternoon sorting out a lower velocity node (hot weather) load for my .308 M70 Palma/Fullbore match rifle. After my test loads, I went ahead on a whim and bench tested the 5 worst "runout cull" cartridges from my last 100 batch of LR match loads. These Win cases have been fired 5x without annealing and the runout on these 5 was .004 to .006 inches. I was surprised at the resulting 100 yard group with the match iron sights. Shows every barrel/chamber is different in the amount of "slop" it will tolerate in loaded ammo. My lightweight 6.5-06 hunting rifle isn't as forgiving...

    Question about knife steel

I have had one of each (Benchmade) . I thought the D2 was a little easier to sharpen and held an edge very well. Currently using S30V and like the stainless aspect. Can't go wrong with either in my opinion.

    Bear spray advice

Both spray and a sidearm if you are allowed and proficient. Can't imagine trying to unlimber that scoped .460 in a hurry though. Do some research on bear behavior. Make noise while hiking and travel downwind where possible.
  25. If it is marked Model 53 it has a M70 push feed long action made by Winchester. It could be made into a very accurate rifle.
