PRGC hunting rifle shoots 2018 schedule
Mike S replied to Mike S's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Bump for shoot tomorrow April 28th. -
Hunters and shooters, we will be holding a hunting rifle shoots Saturday January 27, Sunday February 25, and Saturday April 28th. http://arizona-rifleshooting.com/hunting-rifle-shoot-PRGC.html This is a chance to shoot hunting rifles at realistic field distances (up to 450 yards) and positions at life-size animal targets. All this for fun and realistic practice. We will start before 8 with set up and finish early afternoon typically. We typically fire between 30 and 35 shots, the stages are set up with no more than a handful of shots per stage to prevent overheating barrels and a chance to swap out rifles from stage to stage to allow you to practice with multiple rifles. Please arrive early for set up . These shoots are open to all, you don’t need to be a PRGC member! Cost is $10 for members or $15 for non-members. Eye and ear protection required. Feel free to PM me with any questions. WE HOPE YOU ALL WILL COME OUT AND SHOOT WITH US! Thanks! Mike Samer

Mine came today. They seem to have grown in size in order to add advertising!

This one may be little heavier than the newest version ( I think) but a great tent. I've switched over to a 4 season Hilleberg and don't use this any more.
-
2 man backpacking tent with footprint. Used but in very good condition. $150 Face to face Phoenix /Valley

Ammonia will absolutely remove copper. If left to sit in the barrel too long it can pit the metal though. That's why the shooter you saw was using the follow up patches. I just use wipeout now, much simpler and very effective based on bore scope viewing.

New barrel breakin sequence, lets hear yours......
Mike S replied to Lazy-H98's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Here's a link to a good read by an accomplished long range competitor who used to attend our hunting rifle shoots at PRGC. https://www.ssusa.org/articles/2017/12/21/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-barrel-break-in-process/ -
Show me your success! Im unable to chase right now. :(

Regarding dressing them in the rocky nasty stuff, a cheap plastic table cloth works wonders. Didn't pack one yesterday morning and wont make that mistake again. -
If it were my shotgun I'd start with Briley, Champlin or New England Custom Guns off the top of my head. Call the guys at William Larkin Moore and Southwest Shooters Supply and see what they think.

Keep us in mind if you tag out early! -
What caliber and what grain? "mid range loads" is code for 454 Casull. LOL You cracked the code, grin... Mid Range = 250 XTP at 1400 FPS Full House = 335 at 1550 FPS Mid Range is plenty
-
Probably my Freedom Arms 6" single action with mid range loads. It's hammered them for the last 8 years straight.

Why We Don't Use Other People's Loads To Start
Mike S replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Sounds like tight bore assuming the same reamer was used for both chambers, although I would have thought he would have noticed that when verifying the reamer pilot size. The first rifle isn't 5r rifling by chance? -
I suspect the extra weight of a comp slightly delays the unlocking of the barrel as it rotates off the barrel link. Similar to using a carrier weight in an AR. It doesn't change the pressure, just the symptoms that show on the case. I wouldn't worry too much about knock down power... I shot one with a Chief's Special .38 +P once and it tipped right over.

Bump for a great rifle. I owned its twin in .300 Win. They do kick though... -
Winchester model 70 .270 150 grain load data?
Mike S replied to Lazy-H98's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
My M70 .270 barrel shot very well with 150 partitions over H4831 and was not temp sensitive like the Reloder 22 I used with 130s. -
Since you will be re-barreling, a bolt switch should not be an issue as the new chamber will be cut to the proper headspace. The downsize in cartridge case diameter may have magazine box /follower implications though, not sure with 700s.

Cool bull on a tough post rut hunt. I'd like to see the one that broke him up...
-
I too have heard of troubles with the Kuius. One of the reasons I've stuck with my MR 6500 over the years. Heavy, but built like a tank. Never a bad word about Kifaru though. Hope you get things sorted out without too much delay. 15D is a fun unit with great scenery. Just not as many rams now.

MARCH-X 10X-60x High Master SCOPE WHY!
Mike S replied to SO I HUNT's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
My bad. I've only looked over a compact model, a 2.5x25 I think, at our club 500 yard practice. It looked pretty slick. -
MARCH-X 10X-60x High Master SCOPE WHY!
Mike S replied to SO I HUNT's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have heard of local F class competitors using them. More of a competition scope than hunting I'd assume. -
Those look like the older style GATs?
