  3. Happy New Year to all.... We started a good year of hunting by harvesting 2 really nice bucks.... I was able to help 2 guys from Salt Lake City Utah hunt the San Carlos Rez for my favorite animal...COUES!!!! The 7 day hunt ended with George tagging a 120 gross buck on the last day and Rob with a 100in buck which was his first coues ever.... the rut seemed on and off and seen a lot of 90-100in class bucks and the occasional 105ish class deer..... eventually I was able to find this big typical in no mans land and push my hunter to get within 380 yards and made a great shot... I captured some footage and pics of the buck before. We had a great time.... oh and by the way... I was able to locate 2 lions and have them shot.... Looking forward to seeing some great bucks this year... God bless you Coues deer fans... George Wilde 120 gross San Carlos Coues 2014

    San Carlos Draw

Tell u what though. It's sure a lot better than standing in line for 2 weeks day and night to get a tag. And expecting a riot on tag sale date. I strongly agree with the draw system. I have a lot more to say of past experiences but keeping it real with a draw. I know Dan had a lot of input on this and the first go around is never easy or convenient for anybody. But sure it will improve. Thanks Dan for ur help. It's good to see new faces on the Rez hunting coues. God bless all who applied and true traditional saying "always next year".

Paying for a San Carlos Tag

I love living, hunting, guiding, working on the San Carlos Rez, and a proud Apache Tribal Member... and of course hunting the Rez is costly.... and beautiful country... but the main mistake is some hunters from either out of state and out of town believe..... is....we have 110 bucks everywhere..... like we are going to see one everyday during the hunt.... This is absolutely not true..... honestly Ive seen about a dozen 110+ bucks in my hunting career which started when I was a teenager. And that's just me personally scouting and hunting the infamous grey ghost. This year I worked really hard to find 2 great bucks that grossed the 120 mark, and it wasn't easy at all. I have hunted state many times and have seen 100+ bucks as well..... I think its just personal preference where guys want to hunt... whether is a longer hunt...less pressure... or just enjoying God's creation and hunt for the enjoyment... whatever the reason..... its still just hunting no matter where you are in the world.... Like Ive said in a previous post about broadheads.... its not the broadhead its the hunter... same as hunting..... It doesn't matter where you are at.... its the hunter.... But either way you see it...its all about the love of coues deer.
  10. great buck...looking forward to the story...especially getting it done with a bow

Paying for a San Carlos Tag

As far as the rut hunt. I have seen total of 19 bucks taken on the Rez through photos and other guides. Mostly DIY hunters and honestly didn't see any 110+ bucks taken this year. Saw one crazy medusa buck that looked beastly but it was just a head pic and couldn't determine size but looked good. A lot of 95-108 bucks taken as far as what I've seen through pics and stories shared. Did hear and always hear about the big ones getting away. In Nov. I know personally 2 hunters that smoked a 110 and 115. Which they spiked and hunted hard for 5 days without coming back to the truck. The biggest buck I saw during our hunt was the 120 shot in unit C. And also the buck I shot in B during my tribal hunt which grossed 124. I can't blame the weather but it was extremely warmer than usual and didn't see a normal rut year. But that's just my observation. I've heard others doing really well and seeing good ruttin. I know a lot of hunters don't care to post pics on the site. There were alot of 105-108 class buck taken for sure though.

    Hyrids?

Ive been around with this when I shot my big coues this year... sounds like it would be disqualified to enter in the books if it is a hybrid... other than that... he is recognized for its tail..... kinda weird topic but interesting..... I told one hunter.... I didn't know I had to measure meta tarsal glands on a deer before shooting it to determine species...lol.... if you check out the coues biology section... there is good read up on it.... its more than just white tail....ring around the nose.... small ears... and frame of coues... enjoy

    Wood Stove

Happy Holidays.... I am looking for a wood stove for my house.... The one I have has taken a dump..lol... but anyone who has an extra one in descent shape would be appreciated... My budget is anywhere under $200 or if someone is just willing to get rid of an old one.... I always believed and grew up with a wood stove, but now a days.. they aren't cheap.... PM me thank u
  17. Christmas Eve I was able to take out my step son, and hunt archery on the Rez.... He was unable to harvest a deer during our October rifle season, all because he was picky...ha ha... nothing wrong with that at all... he had a blast in October, and was trophy hunting. Since he didn't tag out, the Rez has an order in place if you don't tag out in October, you have the option to trade it in for an archery tag for the month of December... So knowing the rut just barely kicked in, we set out to find a buck worthy of filling his tag..... amazing we came across a monster 200in muley and tried 3 times to get on this buck with no success, in fact, he had 30 does with him which blew our stock numerous times... too many eyes I should say... 120 yards is as close as we got to this buck... a big 6x6... I couldn't believe it... thought I was on the strip..lol... but anyway we decided to give the muley buck a break and take a drive and scout the unit im guiding next weekend. On our way out to scout we spotted a lot of coues tracks on the road and I told Tapija that I bet this guy is on the road and laughed. Not shortly after we stopped and walked up to a saddle and found the buck standing 36 yards looking at us, and the adrenaline ripped, and I whispered to him that it was a good buck, and he slowly drew back and let off a shot..... Now from my angle I couldn't tell if the buck was hit, then saw it run 150 yards up the hill and crash. Tapija was pumped and happy.... I was a lil envious since Ive never shot a coues with a bow before, but I was full of joy being with him in the mountains and watching him harvest a coues with his bow.... his first words were... "I guess this is my Xmas Gift" I am extremely proud and I joked, and said "I think you took one of my clients buck ha ha".... The buck roughly scores 102 2/8... wow... congrats....FYI.. this big muley is still alive and well, hope he survives for 2014....
  18. Yes!!!!! I don't have to stand in line for 2 weeks anymore. Good luck to the hunters who put in. Hope this system works for all hunters especially coues deer hunters. I will be there on the tag sale date to greet the successful draws.

    San Carlos Archery Buck

I'm not sure if he would of. But I know I would shoot anything legal with a bow. It's a trophy with bragging rights lol. The muley would have been down with the boom stick for sure during our rifle season. I passed the info to one of my buddies who can shoot 80 yards accurately with his bow. See how he does.
