Grandpa's Springfield 1917 rifle rebuild, maybe 6.5-06?
apache12 replied to Zeke-BE's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Sorry. I say leave it be. If you modify it becomes just another rifle. Right it's Grandpa rifle with a bunch of cool stories. Just my thoughts -
So I'm thinking its time to add an AR type weapon to the safe before politicians ban then Maybe I'm paranoid but... Anyway, 25 years ago I carried an M16 in Uncle Sam's Army so I'm familiar with the platform but I look at them now and the built rifles and build kit options are endless. I'm more Hunter than shooter so I guess a longer barrel to hunt coyotes is wise but not dead set I'd love to spend between 700 and 1000 w/o optics Can anyone share some thoughts on factory built options and build kit recipes? I'm a reader so any sites or links that discuss the subject are great Thinking 5.56 but would consider AR 10 7.62 if there's a good argument or even an AK 47 but still consider that the enemy's rifle Cheers

Sounds like 1:8 for me. Leaning toward 20 inch maybe bull barrel. I read something about most lowers coming out of the same four or five machine shops and the. They just stamp a logo on them. Seems like a few tools are key like that magazine insert for holding in the vise Thanks for the tips so far. Think I'll print that spreadsheet parts list

Thanks for the pointers. I would only shoot varmit. Maybe a javelina. All other hunting is bolt action rife So. Looks like three twist options. I would assume I'll shoot 55 grain mostly. Does the 1:8 give the best options all the way around

New 7mm Rem Mag Load Development
apache12 replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Could you explain your ladder test? I thought a ladder test was setting five or so targets with five different loads and then shooting One round from each load at a its own target so 1,2,3,4,5 and then start over -

That was so good I read it twice. Excellent post -
So some may remember from earlier post that I'm a new hand loader I loaded up a accubound 140 grain with h4831sc at 54 56 and 58. 270 win I shoot a 24 inch weatherby bedded and floated My buddy shoots a Winchester 70 24 inch barrel bedded and floated We shot of a rest at only 100 Somewhat strange results we both shot almost exact groups but on different impact points on the paper And the groups were not I pressive 2 we moa or a bit under and one was always 2 inch flyer We shot cool barrel and it was Thursday so nice out And the flyer was random. Not the first or last bullet Each gun had different velocity too His 200 for faster at the 54 gr and then he didn't increase much on higher loads and mine did increase to were I was faster at the higher grain Anyway were aren't pros at loading but we both shoot decent and of a rest I'd hope for better results So my question is should I just continue with the powder and bullet at .5 increment changes Or try a totally different load? We have some 130 hdy sp and spritzer 130 bt. And some imr 4350 and imr 4831 Is better to first try lots of differnt and then when you find a good one dial it in Or am I'm giving up to early on the accubound 140 and h4831sc?

I've been staring at this thing on backpage for a few days trying to convince myself why I need it. I've always wanted a model 14. Just have too many other calipers close to the 270 wsm. Great price. Good luck on the sale

How do you know how much stock to remove. And how much bedding compound to pour in? I guess if you prep and the tighten 10lb torque then the compound will work itself out
