    I have a Vortex Skyline tripod I was planning to sell. It's a Micro Fluid Pan head. Really nice tripod that I love, but I rarely use it because it weighs 5lbs and I mostly backpack in. Extremely smooth and nice. I also have an inexpensive Slik tripod I was looking to get rid of. Nothing special and not that great, but it works for the backpacking trips. I am selling both because I want to upgrade to an Outdoorsmans Pan Head and Tripod.

    What size waist belt? And what size stays? Thank you, and where are you located?

     

    Sorry I didn't include this information in the post. I will revise the original content to include this. The stays are 26" Ultralight Composite formed for a "Normal" curve in the back. The waist band is Medium, so it will work for 34"-38" waist per their website (real world a little under and over). Also, I added that I have a Guide Lid to the post above as well.

    I took it out for 6 trips before a knee injury took me out of the game for a while. It is still in perfect condition. This is the internal frame pack. Only offloading it because I would like to upgrade to another pack. The stays are 26" Ultralight Composite formed for a "Normal" curve in the back. The waist band is Medium, so it will work for 34"-38" waist per their website (real world a little under and over). I also changed many of the clips on the pack to the locking type. Selling the pack for $350.

    This unit is a GPS device that also allows two-way satellite communication via SMS. You can even connect directly to a smartphone and use most of the features (i.e. SMS messaging, GPS, topo maps) on the phone via an app. More importantly, you can reach and speak directly to Search and Rescue if you ever find yourself in an emergency. This item is a must for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, whether it be riding, off-roading, hiking, backpacking, hunting, etc. It does have a couple very small scratches on the front thought from my very first trip, but otherwise it is in perfect condition as it has been in the case ever since. SOLD.

    Cell phone apps have pretty much replaced handheld GPS. Screen quality and functionality is way better on a smartphone. Most apps allow maps to be downloaded to be used without cell signal. Biggest hurdle is battery life on your phone

    To handle the battery life hurdle, I carry a portable charging device and cable. I'm able to fully charge my phone from dead to 100% 3x. It has 10000mAh. Also, make sure you're on airplane mode while out there to lessen the drain on the battery. GPS works on airplane mode.

     

     

    Same here. I have the Photive Bolt that has 9000mAh to charge all my devices. It's drop proof and water resistant, and was only $40 on Amazon. I would like to pick up one of the Dark Energy units though. Slightly more power, seems more rugged and they are a hunting based company that I would like to support.

    If this post is out of line I apologize and feel free to delete. I'm only posting this because I have seen a couple other posts from people asking about the DeLorme InReach products. I have also gotten a couple PM's from people who are interested. I got an email today offering $50 off a unit plus $50 in airtime credit for anyone that buys one via a reference from me. Full disclosure I would also get $50 in airtime credit, but honestly not looking to get that all too bad, mostly just thought those interested in getting one would like the $100 they get in total savings.     I have tried more than a couple, and the AGC is my favorite hands down. Super comfortable, and I love all the pockets (although less pockets is available). I like that I can keep some critical gear in there as it never comes off in the hunt. I keep a knife, fire starting kit and Steripen in it for basic survival should I ever get separated from my pack.

    to the OP, I was in the same boat, I was a bowtech guy for 10 years, The PSE CA 34 changed all that this year. I currently have one sitting in my garage as we speak completely taken apart...I like to do things a lil different, I will be changing the color myself via-duracoat, I powder coat all my other bows but being Carbon powder coat is a no go, I have used duracoat on quite a few other things and the stuff is amazing, I will have to post some pics of it when it is done.

    With that said, ive never worried about "warranty" think i would of with Bowtech, LOL!

    PSE is making a amazing product and have been for years, im not to worried about using the "warranty". I know a few people within PSE and they have been nothing short of great to deal with.

     

    Good luck with whatever bow you decide to run with, this is a fun time of year for new bow shopping!

     

    Thanks for the great post! Glad to hear good things about them as a company. I do get nervous about the warranty though. If the riser ever gets damaged or cracked (99.999% chance that NEVER happens haha) then I would have to rely on the warranty. I was told by PSE any coating would warranty it. I'm leaning a little more toward the Hoyt now because I appreciate their willingness to allow for a little customization and they have good customer service. The Carbon Defiant also weights the same 3.6lbs as the Carbon Air. Tough decision, but I can't wait to get my hands on a new toy!

    Personally, I follow the two is one and one is none school of thought when it pertains to critical gear. In this instance particularly, each has its own benefit. I have a DeLorme InReach Explorer, Garmin Oregon 600 and my good ol' iphone. My phone takes pictures, gives me some tunes, pairs with the DeLorme and lets me make calls to and from the hunting area. The Garmin is a specialized GPS device that lets me plan out my path and my trip and has the best mapping information. The DeLorme is probably the most important to me, as it lets me wife sleep easy and puts my nerves to rest as well. I have gone through 2 ACL tears on my right knee, so anytime I am out for an extended time in the backwoods fear of injury is real for my wife and I. That device gives me the ability to have a direct line to search and rescue and my wife. You can text people through the device. On top of all that, I always have a map and compass with me as well. Overkill? Probably, but it will only be overkill right up to that moment I need it. I also carry a backup battery that charges all three and plan to get a solar panel soon.

    For what it's worth, PSE customer service (pro shop) has treated me like crap every time I've been in there. I will probably never never buy another bow from them

     

    That's actually good to know. The lady on the phone wasn't rude, but was far from friendly as well. I realize I am being a bit of a cry baby, but like I said, if I am spending that much money on something I would hope they try their best to keep a customer happy.

    Well I didn't see any responses (I'm guessing no one knew the answer :) ), so I went ahead and called PSE to get clarification. I figured I would post the responses just in case someone else was looking for the answers.

     

    1. Apparently the 2016 Carbon Air was 3.2lbs, but the 2017 Carbon Air 34 ECS is 3.6lbs. Bummed, I was hoping it was the lesser of the two listed on that products page.

    2. I was very disappointed that they won't allow ANY color selections on the product. Being a western hunter, I am surprised they only offer Black and Mossy Oak Breakup, especially given that they are in AZ. I was also told that getting a different camo pattern applied to the bow would void the warranty. I also saw on their website that they have most of the accessories that come on the bow available in different colors, and was told they have various string colors in house. Unfortunately though, they will not allow you to request different color strings or accessories. You have to order the bow as is then buy additional products. Bummer, especially given that the other two big companies (Hoyt and Mathews) allow for so much customization. I know I might be a big baby, but when spending so much money on a product I was really hoping their customer service would kick in and help make sure you are getting exactly what you want.

     

    I know I am way too much of a fanboy and the colors don't matter, but I'm pretty bummed about the options. I though I had made a final decision but now I'm just not sure.

    I hit up Ross Outdoor today and got some awesome help from one of the fellas there in my pursuit for a new bow. It's crazy how you can go into a shop with expectations about a product and have everything flipped around. I was almost certain at the start of my search that the Hoyt Carbon Defiant Turbo was the bow for me. I shot it and personally hated it. I also tried the Hoyt Carbon Defiant 34, Mathews Halon 32, Prime Centergy, PSE Carbon Air 34 ECS and Bowtech Reign. I couldn't believe how well the PSE Carbon Air shot with the new ECS cams. Not to mention, I am a backpack hunter so I was looking for something lightweight. That thing weights nothing at all! I was wondering if anyone here could clarify regarding the bow.

     

    1. The website shows two mass weights. In various segements they list it at 3.2lbs, but in the specs they list it as 3.6lbs. I'm curious what the weight actually is if anyone knows.

    2. Personally, I do not like any of the color patterns offered by PSE. Surprised at what they are offering given that they are in AZ and, in my opinion, the colors are all really dark. Does PSE have any customization offerings if you order the bow? Personally, I just want lighter colors and I'm hoping to change up the accessory colors. I could get a black bow, then send it off to be dipped in a pattern I like, but it looks like the black bow comes with red strings and accessories which I personally hate. Anyone have experience with PSE and changing some of this stuff up?

    Very cool story! Have you ever considered picking up a DeLorme Inreach Explorer or SE? I can tell you that thing makes me feel a WHOLE lot better when I'm out in the backwoods. I became such a sissy once my daughter was born. I love the fact that I can hit a button and have a direct line of communication with S&R. Not really afraid of situation I'll get myself into, but after two ACL tears in my right knee and aging body (I'm 33 going on 60 haha) I feel much better knowing someone can be notificed if I get too hurt.

    Thanks for everyone's input. I stopped by Timber Mesa on Monday night just to check the store out. Everyone there was super helpful and friendly. They even set up a couple bows for me to test, and recommended some others to try out. I will definitely be swinging by Ross Outdoor when I get back from my travels to see their store as well. I was bummed to hear about the issue mentioned above at Timber Mesa. If they struggle to mount a sight on properly, I would be pretty concerned they don't really know how to properly tie certain elements into the strings and tune it as needed (I don't have a bow press). I'll bet that was more of a fluke though.

    Thanks everyone! Ross seems to be getting some pretty awesome reviews. They have 5 stars on Google too. I saw Timber Mesa and was considering them, but they weren't listed as a dealer on Hoyt's website, so I thought they might not sell them. I'll give them a call to be sure.

     

    I'm still pretty open when it comes to a bow. The Hoyt and Mathews I listed above are at the top of my list, but I know I plan to shoot lots of other bows too to make absolutely certain. Top priority is shootability, followed VERY closely by weight. I prefer to backpack hunt so keeping the weight down is pretty important.
