  1. Not any of my idea. They are looking for ways to be more successful at taking more buffalo. During the deer hunt the buffalo were usually hammered with a ton of hunters and pressured back into the park the first couple of days with only the first couple of lucky hunters filling tags and the rest left with unfilled tags and shattered dreams. I imagine their thought behind it was to create less hunting pressure in hopes the buffalo would come out of the park more and create more hunter success in the end. From what I know of the buffalo, I think this logic is sound. However, I think the non stop back to back hunts without a break in pressure is going to cause them a problem in the long run. Much like the constant depredation hunts they held down on House Rock every time a herd showed up there. A handful of constant hunts over a couple of seasons and the buffalo just quit coming down. They are smart enough to catch on pretty quick. Imagine what elk would turn into if the general rifle season was year round without a break. It will be interesting to see what these new hunts bring to the situation. But, They need to keep looking into what the core of the problem is because band aids will always be temporary and only help so much. Studies show that only a very small portion of the herd ever leaves the park and most never leave the park at all. The major portion of the herd doesn't even live near the boundary of the park. That's because Everything the buffalo need is on the park... The only thing that they don't have on the park that they have off the park is Salt. Obviously they cant limit the bison's food and shelter that is on the park. The one thing they can limit is the access to water. The G&F have already built bison proof pole fences around water in other areas that are friendly to deer and other animals. My suggestion was to build these around the water sources in the park. This would force more buffalo to expose their selves to hunters outside the park. They would have to come off to drink or go down to the river to drink. I think that will be about as good of a band aid as they can get. Good, but still a band aid. I also wish that a cow or yearling wasn't once in a lifetime! If that was the case, they would have a half dozen less buffalo just from my family alone! In the end, if they want to control the herd, the real answer is ever so plain and simple. They will have to allow some kind of harvesting of buffalo on the park. And if they think it over just a little, They'll realize that they will all be able to make their precious money on it so all agencies are happy. Lance

    6B Navajo archery pronghorn.

Half Congrats on drawing your tag. Good to see your excited about it! I've hunted the depot a lot. I wouldn't say an archery antelope tag on the Depot would be tops on my list for an antelope tag, But there are some there, just be ready to work long, hard and smart. They don't always stay on the Depot when pressured so be mindful of that when decoying and stalking. But don't give up on one just cause it runs off, there aren't usually many to choose from so don't loose em. I would concentrate on finding some "Choke Points" or "Funnels" first. The area they are in is full of great choke points. Some are made up of narrow meadows between pine trees and small hills. When those antelope travel from meadow to meadow through the pines they prefer the same routes so watch for their trails and scrape lines. When you see a buck, know he is not there randomly! Try to figure out why he is there and where he came from and where he is going! Get out and walk his backtrail and make an effort to find patterns and trails. There are also really good fence crossings!!!! Fence crossings are some of the best! And I've also seen them funneling between other man made structures and buildings on the Depot. There is usually lots of water everywhere that time of year so setting a water hole can be pretty worthless. Some times its best to find where they are watering in a puddle in the road and determine if its random or if there is a pattern to it. Get out and scout as much as you can! Take lots of pictures! Make sure you have an archery deer tag! Good luck! Hope some of that helps. Looking forward to seeing those pictures! Lance

  7. Hey guys! I'm looking for info on this. Could someone, if anyone knows, please contact me with the info on who to contact about this hunt? Thank you. Lance
  8. The one we call Ibex is one of my favorites. We watched him for a couple of years and even hunted him last year with an archery hunter. The buck liked to travel a lot and some times would disappear for long periods of time. This is a picture of the mount that the hunter Waldo sent me. Lance
  9. To end the stories. Lee called me and we had a very kind, respectful and professional discussion about it. Thank you Lee. We have agreed that there are several different sides to the story and to just drop it and move on. I'm sorry anything like this ever has to happen between hunters. So please no side taking from anyone and we will move on. I hope you all have a wonderful day and good luck in the draw to everyone! Thank you. Lance Crowther
  10. Huntn Coues. I'm sure your wife is a wonderful person and she deserves the world like all daughters of God do. I'm glad your wife ended up taking a nice buck of her own and was happy. I've offered to talk to you in the past when you went off accusing us on another thread, but you didn't. Or maybe that wasn't you. And now this... So I offer to talk to you in person now as well. We are not bad people and you should please get to know us personally before publicly slandering us. Is your name Lee? I'll leave out his last name... If your not Lee then your story is second hand from Lee. Lee was the one with her telling her that she hit it but she really didn't. Maybe he really thought she did and that's why you have heard this one sided story that is making you speak out in argument on a public forum. I'm not going to argue with you over something that is all He said, You said stuff. All I will say for you and everyone else's information. Is that there were several other hunters out there watching it all happen from different angles. After our hunter was interrupted by Lee and continued on to finish the hunt, several healthy miles later, the other hunters who were in separate hunting groups and didn't know each other, each felt the need to come forward and tell our guys that they had seen it all and that clearly the buck was not wounded and Lee was in the wrong and not us. There was clearly only one bullet hole in the animal. We shot at it first and last with lee's interruption in between. I'm sorry you are upset. Even our hunter said he wishes she wouldn't have missed. Even I wish she wouldn't have missed. But all that's been said before. I hope you can understand that. Lance

    Best unit in AZ

Yes, it varies year to year for lots of different reasons. And time of year and what hunt you have makes a huge difference also. There is never an absolute in elk hunting. Other than Arizona has big bulls in all units. Lance

  18. The Seminar is $100 per adult and $150 per couple or parent child. We find the cost promotes a smaller class full of serious participants. This allows us to make the class about the hunter and bring it to a very personal and interactive level. It is a full day seminar covering everything elk hunting from A to Z. There will be cool door prizes and such. The Seminar also includes for each person a packet full of personal written information and flyers including things from cooking wild game to professional photography. Also an instructional video on the TLO way of processing animals in the field, including the TLO Rib Roll. And many other relevant things including a $100 TLO Coupon. Not to mention for lunch we provide a home cooked meal of pulled pork that I smoke myself. Thank you everyone! Hope that answers the questions so far. Please feel free to inquire further. 22. Our hunter Aaron just picked up his mount of the "97" buck and sent me these pictures!
  23. Yes it would be... BUT, we call him "97" as his name. He does not score 97". We call him "97" because that is the number on his ear tag. Real original I know... lol! He is however a great mid 80's B&C record buck! Lance
