  2. Tony and I had been communicating back and forth the past few months. He drew a late rifle Unit 23 bull tag this year and knew his worsened physical condition was going to prevent him from getting out for that one last hunting trip.

After our talking back and forth, Tony felt he had finally found the right organization for his tag in Heroes Rising Outdoors. He wanted to be sure that his tag would be going to an Arizona veteran who had been disabled due to an actual combat related injury. I assured him that we'd make that happen. It hit me to the core when Tony told me he doubted he'd be here when the time for the hunt arrived. I hated to hear those words, but prepared myself for what might be.

For those of you in the younger generations, you really missed out on a special man who contributed greatly to the hunting fraternity through the years! Tony had accumulated a wealth of knowledge he shared through many decades of writing. He was direct in what he had to say, whose thoughts carried much merit.

You definitely will be missed, Tony! We were fortunate you were an Arizonan ...

    Godspeed!

  3. Truck in question is a '98 Chevy 4x4 that has been maintained mechanically until this non-working A/C issue. Would be willing to try a DIY re-charge if anyone out there would be willing to help me go that route --- I am not a wrench monkey and due to my full HRO schedule honestly don't want to tackle this on my own at this late point.

My phone #: (480)760-3868 if you have the inclination to help out the next couple days/eves, I'm flexible on time and can come to you with parts/refrigerant needed.

Appreciate your checking out my thread,

  4. I'm fortunate to drive a sponsored Heroes Rising Outdoors truck. Sometimes I need to use my personal vehicle when our HRO truck is needed to pull Az Elk Society's trailers to different events.

My older Chevy 4x4 hasn't been driven much the past couple years. Just discovered the A/C isn't blowing cold. Hopefully it's an easy fix and not the compressor!

Whose a reliable A/C guy in the East Valley (I'm on Gilbert/Chandler border)?

Appreciate your speedy replies --- I'm scheduled to leave for a turkey hunt this Thursday ... (Fingers crossed)

    Thanks!

  5. I talked with the prospective tag donor last night when I got back in town (individual is moving back to his home state and wants to see an Arizona disabled veteran get to hunt using his tag).

Appreciate those of you who put my/our (Heroes Rising Outdoors) name out there!

  6. I'm going to piggy back on Sean's thread (okay with you, Rossi?).

I also personally drew for sandhill crane, and will be taking 2 disabled vets hunting cranes on donated tags. In the same boat --- it's crazy how skimpy ammo is out there now again (we all know why).

I'm in need of some ammo I can shoot out of a 3.5" 12-gauge. LEAD shot preferred! Any HeviShot 3.5" Goose #4s to be had out there anywhere? Or something close???

I'm in the East Valley, will drive anywhere in the Phoenix area ...

  7. This flag run will be the 7th annual one held by Desert Fanatics to benefit a veteran organization. This year all funds raised go towards Arizona Elk Society's Heroes Rising Outdoors program.

DF was fortunate that the city of Glendale agreed to let the run go forward with a few stipulations (like face masks and social distancing). Would we prefer things were such that we didn't have to make those concessions? Sure. But how would not having the event at all raise funds for vets? It wouldn't.

As for no political signs? This is NOT a pro-conservative event, other than the supporting of our veterans who put love of country above themselves! Anything other than that diminishes those sacrifices and redirects our coming together to something else.

There are plenty of opportunities to fly flags in support of Trump (or whomever/whatever) --- this won't be one of them. This is about our veterans. I think we can all get behind that ...

  8. This is a ONE-TIME happening - the largest event yet to specifically benefit Heroes Rising Outdoors! If you’re not out hunting this Saturday, no better way to support Arizona’s disabled veterans. You DON’T want to miss this (trust me)!

Here's a video from Desert Fanatics Veterans Flag Run last year --- this year's event will be even BIGGER! Come out and join us this Saturday (Nov. 14) in raising $$$ in support of Arizona Elk Society's Heroes Rising Outdoors veteran outreach program. I personally look forward to seeing you there!
