I have a Vortex Diamondback 3-9-x40 with the Dead Hold BDC reticle which is commonly used for muzzys. It would come with rings as well if your interested. Nothing wrong with it, just not using it at this time. I'm located in NW Tucson I can do $150 with rings, it's in great shape. It has the drop lines for multiple yardages. Couple things here, if a reasonable attempt is made to check for cubs (I.E. bear walks through a saddle and no cubs in tow) then I would have to think it's a legal bear. The burden of proof could not be to check adjacent areas for cubs as a Bowhunter. That's ridiculous! Lions leave their kittens behind a lot, same thing would apply. Wouldn't this be common sense that they don't want hunters to intentionally kill a sow they know has cubs? A comparison to killing the wrong type of deer is indeed laughable, and has no merit in this argument. On a final note, my hunting pard and I passed a shot a bear while bow hunting w a very large "cub" in tow. I had a friend immediately call G&F to find out a legal definition of what a cub was. They acted baffled and couldn't even give an answer and eventuall said Heffelfinger would be calling back to give detail or an answer to a fair question IMO (I believe spots is the standard they go by w lions). This thing was pushing 100lbs but we did not think it was a male/female rut scenario or did we feel it was a nursing cub. After a big run around with no one wanting to officially answering the question from G&F, we still never got their position because Heffelfinger never did call my friend back as stated by G&F that he would. Not a big deal, but I would have been interested to hear their official position none the less. Funny we heard the same thing as stated above from other hunters , shoot the small one first, problem solved

Easton has a great set of carbon fiber options w "Rok Lok". I heard they went out of business though. I would stick w carbon fiber, a good locking mechanism and stay away from rubber grips as they make your hands sweat too much.

From my experience, the farther you hike, the better the buck to doe ratio can become. During these high temp months, deer can bed very quickly and move a lot less throughout the day. On cycles where the moon is close to full, I usually have trouble at first light glassing deer and think they bed before sun up and then get up a little later to feed and move a bit and then bed again. So on fuller moon cycles, I have better luck an hour or so after first light. I would glass more open areas until 9 and then move to N face hills to glass after that. If you do catch deer moving to a N facing slope over the ridge, a lot of times they will pop right back over in the evening to start their routine over. I usually give up on an area after a couple days of glassing and move on if I don't find what I'm looking for. Keep in mind, these deer have a very small "core area", they could be very close but just out of reach of your viewing. Good luck, big bucks should be starting to show serious potential right about now. It's a good time to be out looking. Don't be afraid to sit out a rain, the hills usually come alive after the rain breaks and cloudy days can be deer all day kind of days.

I believe the draw is completed almost instantly. Most cards show pending charges immediately, late hits are more likely late credit card companies to show pending charges. Cabelas cards take a few days or more to show pending charge. Since they no longer call people to update declined cards, the chance of someone declining that option and it going to the next guy are over. They only way to be "guaranteed" a tag on 3rd, 4th or 5th is to put in for a hunt that typically has left overs in it. Odds go way down after your 2nd choice.

Really hard to choose just one, but this one definitely comes to mind. My wife and I on her second backpack coues hunt. We were by ourselves way in the back country and had over a 4 hour pack out the next day. We had to leave lots of gear including all optics and head back in a week later to get the rest of gear (not a great feeling leaving that much capitol on the hillside for a week). I located the buck in the morning and we set up for an evening shot hoping he would resurface. Right before dark he appeared coming back over the ridge and she made a killer 400 yard shot and he dropped in his tracks. He was one of three bucks I was hoping to find. She wants to return for her hunt this year and I can't wait!
