I couldn't be happier, I think Bret did a flawless job on mine. Every time I walk by, I feel like I need to put another arrow in it! I'll second Bret Prentice, or 3/4th haha whatever post I am

REWARD OFFERED- TRAIL CAM THIEF IN PIC- REWARD

I believe you gentlemen are feeding the troll. I think the term "you can't fix stupid" should be applied here. As far as the bandit, any updates on anybody recognizing him?

    Javelina OTC

On draw tag leftovers, you still get charged an app fee even after they go available OTC. If the tag is OTC up front, then no application fee is required. That is my understanding. Metro javelina tags are $25.

    Javelina OTC

They have OTC for metro areas and all left over tags are OTC after mail in draw. Since they have started allowing 2 javis per year the last four years they have a lot less tags that don't get sold. Going to full OTC would mean they would lose control over how many hunters per area and I doubt they want to do that. Also they would lose the $13 app fee, as they do not charge that for OTC that never is in the draw. Metro pig is $25 with no app fee. Highly doubt they want to give up the coin.....

Returning tag for reinstatement of bonus points

I for one love the idea, but I'm very interested in the multiple friends or family member points build up "scheme". I have a lot of antelope points and I'm guaranteed a few archery hunts and very close to pick of the liter archery if that is in fact what I choose. I'm also pretty much guaranteed a Utah goat tag at this point. To top this off, family is top priority and if they draw, I want to give their hunt maximum attention to maximize the experience for them. With that being said, in a pinch, I would like to be able to give a hard to get tag back if it fell on a year where we just flat out got too lucky and drew too many tags. It hasn't happened yet, but it's a pretty scary endeavor to know it's coming and I could be stuck with a tag and not be able to enjoy a hunt I've waited A LONG LONG TIME FOR. It's much easier for me to give it back, then say "son, I know you drew that tag, but Dad finally drew this and your not going hunting. Sorry Bud" This is a no brainer idea to me, but....... I would like to see some thought put into the process to prevent obvious abuse.

Wild Game Processing does it again!

Jon is great guy, has always taken care of me and my friends. Should be a great deal when he gets his new location going. I highly recommend using Jon, he has processed well over 25 animals for us so far and I have zero complaints. For people who don't necessary like the idea of eating javelina, turn that sucker in a couple different kinds of sausage. Jon will make you a believer and you'll never look back.

    Big boy hits the dirt.

Congrats man, nice buck. Crazy how people come out of the woodwork to say they have seen or think they have seen or hunted a buck that has been put in the dirt. Apparently the buck I killed last year was hunted and/or seen or even missed haha in 5 different units. And here I thought coues deer stayed in a relatively small area.....

    WTB Jim White tripod head

I've heard that someone is now making these heads again. I would contact Bull Basin in Flag (they bought out remaing stock back when) or Tucson and see what you can find on these. Good luck, I have two and love them.

    Rage 3-blade broadhead SUCK!?!?!

I'm at at a loss trying to figure out what people are talking about when it comes to the 2 blade rage. I was turned on to these after seeing the most amazing blood trails that blind men could follow. When animals are lost, chances are IMO, that the hunter is probably not %100 sure of placement and penetration. Bottom line, animals survival instinct is amazing and they WILL go as far as they can if possible. Any broadhead can result in a lost animal. My take on this is a lot of time you are dealing with an entrance hole only, with that being said, I would prefer the largest hole and wound channel available. I've personally taken or seen taken well over 20 animals shot with rage 2" or 2.3" and the entrance holes are insane and normally I get pass throughs. Never seen a "failure" yet that I know of. I've seen bad shot placement but not failure to open? Also, I think people need to pay more attention to KE, lots of guys using very lightweight set ups and I wonder if they would do better with heavier set ups. Good luck to all, and here's to short bloods trails everytime, all the time!

Does Working Out Help You Hunt Better?

Pretty funny stuff, I'll admit I have lost some weight and I do alot of scouting/hunting to help "stay in shape", but I still say all this hollywood bs of lifting and filming is pretty silly stuff to me. I already have a good looking wife...., therefore I have zero use for a weight room! Plus my allergy.....

Does Working Out Help You Hunt Better?

No, scouting and learning from your mistakes makes you a better hunter. Being fit just makes it easier. I'm allergic to weights, hasn't affected me, not that I can tell anyway. I thought working out was to score hot chicks not big bucks?

    Special Gould's draw

Sounds like they are upping the number of tags. I wonder how many more per hunt they will be giving out?

    First Timer Coues Archery Advice

Sounds like a lot fun! I wouldn't get too hung up on direction of glassing, glass the open areas first to try and find any "easy" deer and then start your griding. I also wouldn't be going back to the same spot, if your going to make tons of short trips, I would be jumping around a lot until I found a decent buck and then stay in that general area. Bedding them down in the morning is usually the best way to get close. Also, pretty much now through Jan can be bucks hanging out with does. If you find a doe, take time to look around and look for friends/bucks. Spot and stalk coues is pretty tough, good luck to you.

Any Advice for a New Guy

Coues come to water like paranoid crack heads looking out for the po po. My opinion is water is best under very dry conditions for coues. Even watching them through glass at long distance, their behavior completely changes as the get close to water on their approach. Once I watched a doe come all the way down the mountain, stand alert a 100 yards, finally bed down and wait for another deer to use the water hole. She immediately got up and came to water. Now that was cool and undeniable what she had done. I agree with oneshot, but I myself still sit the water from opposite side I think they will come in so the closet they will ever come is equal to my preferred shot distance.

    tags or refund yet?

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'm expecting tags and refunds. Tags were supposed to mail out Monday and I was thinking I just became part of the tag fiasco and perhaps don't have tags!
  18. Just finished up my last round of helping out on family and friend's coues tags. It's been an amazing year and I'm ready to start all over again. I absolutely love chasing these guys, I feel fortunate I can spend time with people who mean a lot to me, lend a hand and share my passion. My good buddy Nelson and I with my archery coues. He was the only buck I was hunting, all other were getting a free pass this year. My daughter's boyfriend Alex and his very first big game animal. I set him up with one of my back up bows and helped him dial it in. Set him up in a spot I knew had a few bucks and he took it from there! My buddy Nelson with his bomber double beam coues, this was his target buck we set out to kill. My good buddy Cody with his bad a$$ muzzy buck! I had one heck of time with him and his pops and and we'll have good stuff to laugh about for years to come. Amazing hunt and we give it our all from start to finish! My buddy Nelson called and said he had a good buck located for his uncle. Asked if I could tag along and assist. How could I say no to that! His uncle Toni's best coues buck by far. Slaying monsters at 74 years old. I can only hope that's me some day. My daughter Ashley and her muzzy coues buck. We snuck in after he bedded up and she put him down with a 90 yard shot the second he stood up! Nelson was in on the assist for this buck, but he had to bail early and missed out on the photo shoot.... My wife Colleen with her big ol 2 point coues buck. Very special hunt, the two of us backpacked 4 hours into the backcountry. Priceless pretty well sums this up. Love my wife, she's my everything. My buddy Nelson and Harvey helped on some scouting for this hunt for sure, but it was up to Colleen and I to get it done and she was up for the challenge. Last but certainly not least is my friend Larry. I've been telling him to try a hunt for I think 7 or 8 years. I helped him set up his new rifle, loaned him some goodies to help him on his hunt and it was game on. 6 mi round trip that day. Larry and his wife Chrystel even butchered this animal themselves with just a little verbal advise! He's HOOKED to say the least an was one HAPPY HUNTER! Although a couple tags went unfilled, it was definitely a fulfilling season to say the least. Time well spent with the people who mean the most to me. The grey ghost is an amazing creature.

2015 Dream Season 8 Coues Bucks

There were definitely plenty of smiles to go around this season! My son Dillon wasn't able to hunt much, his sports commitments took up all his time. Hopefully he can get out and do some javelina hunting. We have lots of pig tags to fill!

Effects of so many monsters killed on the strip this year

Those bucks have all bred does, possibly for many years and already spread their genes. I think it will have a positive effect by letting this years 180-190 type deer reach those amazing numbers. Any buck alive that is a giant has already beaten the odds by dodging lions and hunters. Better off to take the best and let their offspring fill the void I would think.

2015 Dream Season 8 Coues Bucks

Team Coues Killers haha.... I'm just lucky to be on the crew. Lots of shared passion for the grey ghost on this team. There's already a pretty good line up we're hoping to reunite with come 2016. A biggun gave Nelson and I the slip yesterday, would have been a 105+ inch coues for a new hunter on his first big game animal. Crafty suckers they are for sure.

I am fairly sure the system is only supposed to award "bonus pass tags" to a 1st/2nd choice. I was not aware a 3rd choice could be eligible for the bonus pass. I look forward to hearing how you guys get this resolved. Good luck, I hope they can somehow fix this mess!

Correct If your putting a 2nd choice down because you know there are left over tags and that way you don't have to mail in later for a "left over", then your probably better putting it down as a third choice. You can put the same number in twice for first and second choice or leave second choice blank and use third choice so you cannot get screwed in the bonus pass phase. It doesn't happen to a lot of people, but we hear about someone getting hosed every yr. I don't think I've ever heard of this happening except for javelina.

Could be a bonus pass issue on drawing your second choice tag. If you miss the bonus pass on your first choice, but make the bonus pass on your second choice, unfortunately you will receive your second choice in the "pre draw bonus pass phase" even if there are leftovers for first choice. You basically drew your tag before the regular joe drawing began. It's an epic fail that usually can only happen with javelina. I would assume you have a loyalty and hunter ed point to help make that possible. I only put one entry for javelina, but you could list you second choice in the 3rd choice box and leave the the 2nd choice box empty or put your first choice hunt number in as your second choice as well. This would prevent this from happening. 3rd choice cannot go into the "pre bonus pass phase" of the drawing. Hope that helps for next time if that is your issue. The bonus pass phase only counts for 1st and 2nd choice. Draw system 3 phases: 1st and 2nd choice bonus pass phase 1st and 2nd choice reg drawing 3rd, 4th and 5th choice drawing
