Reminder: Trail cam meeting/webcast tonight at main G&F office
ForkHorn replied to Lv2hnt's topic in The Campfire
Most of the guys that have an expensive fish finder like that let the fish go. I can't see A3 doing that to a giant bull elk. A3 wouldn't protest if they didn't think it was going to effect their business. Is it okay for Outfitters to have a folder full of pictures of elk, and then have a client pick the one he wants? Cameras allow Outfitters with the resources to do that. Send 20 guys looking for that bull, client shows up when it's located. I'm pro camera and run my own but something about that rubs me the wrong way. -
Help with Arizona first coues hunt... Unit question
ForkHorn replied to mcr-85's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Where do you live? Both units have plenty of deer in places that you can get away from roads. I'd probably lean towards the one that is more convenient (closer) for you to scout. -
Nobody takes the enforcement serious when the Forest Service in the first week handed out hundreds of warnings, and when a real fire is started there is only a slap on the wrist. You don't follow the law there should be consequences

Not sure about being general funded. Then you have someone that doesn't care about conservation raising concerns. User funding is ideal. The problem is that hunters and fishermen pay for EVERYTHING. Why not figure out a way to include all of the birders, and hikers, and campers? Those groups reap the benefits of wildlife in the state while footing very little of the bill. Generally they are also conservation oriented and any money raised could go toward all the non game stuff AZGFD already does. Maybe allowing more hunting and fishing funds to go towards.... Hunting and fishing?

Not sure I believe your story... Either that or they were making up their info.

It depends on how you hunt. All I carry is 15's. I can find everything I could with 10's and way more. 10's lost their purpose for me, and I dumped them for weight savings.

That's what you post on the same day this -http://tucson.com/sports/arizonawildcats/football/lawsuit-ua-showed-deliberate-indifference-as-wildcats-player-beat-girlfriends/article_a1edf72d-529f-5a5b-a7d0-cc25e38859ef.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=user-share - comes out? Yes. Keep it classy ASU.

Huh? 1: A quick Google search shows that they are class 2 misdemeanors.. 2: You didn't self report at your first opportunity, for all anyone knows they were already on to you and that's why you self reported. 3: I have been at several camps where first time hunters I didn't know shot the wrong deer/Javelina, more than one, etc and they were all treated fairly after self reporting right away.

Licenses are 365 day deals now. There is no such thing as a "2018" license.

Man... A lot of talking going on here for December. Ayton looked dominant last night but ASU shot horrible and the game was played at Mckale. If UA fans don't think that game could have easily gone to ASU then it might be better for them to say nothing at all. The look UA fans are showing right now doesn't look good on anyone. Was it just me or did UA's bench look short a coach?

I would for the right offers, but I would definitely prefer to sell everything at once. A busy work schedule makes it tough to meet multiple people. Price lowered to $1400 for everything.
-
Bump. Thanks Rkennedy23! Hopefully we cross paths again in the future.
-
Tripod setup sold. Thanks Ryan. Remington 700 long range setup is still available.

Bump and small price drop on the Remington 700 long range setup.

Trying to help a couple of newbies.
ForkHorn replied to Rock30golf's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
The azgfd "where to hunt" section is a great starting point. With more savvy newbies I like to go over maps with them and point out what kind of stuff I look for and why I glass some areas, and then give them a map of their unit or a large area of my favorite unit and then let them try to figure out where they want to hunt. If they can do that, and they can glass than they will be a better hunter than 90% of the average Joe's out there. In either of those units, finding a little buck won't be all that hard and it's super rewarding for them to be a part of the process. -
It largely depends on the deer. Bucks vs does and body size of each. For instance a large body sized buck will actually need less water than a small buck, and a doe that is lactating or pregnant will need water more often than any other deer. Those are just generalizations... But it depends on what they are eating as well. Deer create water from the food they eat through metabolization, and then you bring in other environmental factors like morning dew if it exists, etc and it's kind of a crap shoot. A large buck with a good nutrition base and a non "dry" landscape probably doesn't need free standing water as often as some people believe. Don't take that as a rule though as all creatures can be habitual. I probably just "muddied" the water so to speak, but there are a ton of factors that play into it.

Avenza. Find the older version online that doesn't limit your number of "tiles". I used game planner maps to get more detailed unit maps. Flatline maps also makes maps for avenza now. My preference is for game planner though. There are also the free usfs maps available in the app but I upgraded to game planner and I am extremely happy I did.

Looking for a little help finding the bucks
ForkHorn replied to broadhead's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
There's no hard and fast rule, but my first question is how close to roads and popular areas are you looking? In some units, bucks can be "shot out" close to roads in popular areas leading to a low buck to doe ratio for that spot. Try to think a little different than the average hunter. If your glassing spot doesn't require a hike you may have just reduced your odds of finding a buck by a bunch. -
I thought these were about to be made illegal? I saw it somewhere on here. It might be worth it to double check before you invest a bunch of money
-
Anyone use the smaller 50mm objective spotters to get a better look at something you've already spotted with 15's? Example: Glass up what looks to be a decent buck at 1300 yards with 15's and are debating a stalk so you pull out something like the vortex razor 11-33 50mm and get a better look? Everyone says get at least 65mm but almost no one has actually tried a decent 50mm.

It looks kinda like a wax letter press? A stamp that would be used to seal a letter.

Hey all I have a lab that's a little over a year old and he hikes around with me a lot. Now that the snakes are out I'm a little worried about taking him with me. Any suggestions for someone that snake trains dogs? I'm in the East Valley. Thanks
