    So...who's gonna win??

Thing is I didn't know a thing about him before that game. My assessment was purely from watching him play that day for a little over one quarter.

    $$$ IRONWOOD CARVINGS ANYONE???

These are carved ironwood items from Mexico. I have about a dozen or so from a scorpion to a large eagle with spread wings. In between, there are elk, deer, rams, bears, ducks, a moose, a quail and a roadrunner. They are very heavy and except for a couple, they are highly polished, very dark brown color. These were all purchased by me in Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta and near Caborca before 1990. I know at least two of them are genuine Seri indian carvings. I'm not sure about any of the others. Prices on these have gone up considerably since I bought any because of the crackdown on ironwood trees. These are some quickie photos, albeit a bit dusty. 😉 I'll try to get better individual ones and measurements in the next coupe days when I feel like getting on a ladder to get them down. For some perspective, the eagle's right wing is about 20-22 in. high. and the tip-to-tip spread is anout 12 in. I will consider reasonable offers but no trades. Payment via PayPal (buyer doesn't need an acct; just a CC or checking acct.) or cash only. Must be picked up near 67th Ave. & Camelback in Glendale, AZ or shipped at buyer's expense. History from Wikipedia: The craft originated with the Seri people as a way to earn money from tourists. In the first half of the 20th century, the Seri were mostly confined to Tiburon Island, coming into Kino Bay seasonally to sell firewood, which included ironwood. In the mid 20th century, the traditional Seri economy was disrupted by shrimping in the Gulf of California, which reduced the sea species the Seri needed for food. In the late 1950s, tourism in the area took off in the Kino Bay area. These two developments, along with the island’s status as an ecological reserve prompted the Seri to move to the mainland to communities such as Desemboque and Punta Chueca. Selling handcrafts, including baskets and jewelry as well as the carvings, has become a vital source of income.[4] The first ironwood carver was Jose Astorga, who began by carving animals of pumice stone. His first work with ironwood is utilitarian, bowls, spoons, etc. His first decorative items were created between 1963 and 1964, focusing on sea animals that were popular with tourists. His daughter later became the first to sign her work.[4] Commercial wax and other sanding methods were introduced in 1968. That same year, University of Arizona students began to make monthly trips to the Seri villages to buy the carvings, greatly increasing their popularity.[4] In the 1970s, the Mexican government began to promote and widely distribute the carvings leading to about half of the adult population engaged in the craft.[3][4] Non Seris began carving in the 1970s, as the popularity of the craft grew, and introduced motorized cutting and carving methods in the 1980s as well as carving of animals not part of the Seri world.[3][4] In 1974, BANFOCO became a carving wholesaler with the aim of providing the Seris with a regular income.[4] In the 1980s, distribution extended into Canada and Japan.[3] The growth of the craft however, along with continued use of the wood for charcoal, started to decrease the supply of wood. In 1994 the ironwood tree became protected by the Mexican government, allowing its use only for carving.[3] By this time, the craft had spread into various parts of Sonora as well as the Baja California peninsula.[4] However, most ironwood carving is still done in Kino Bay, Caborca, Magdalena de Kino, Punta Checa, Puerto Libertad, Puerto Peñasco, Santa Ana and Sonoyta.[3] The scarcity of the wood has caused its price to rise and production to fall. This in turn has made already existing pieces more valuable.[4] Prices left to right: Duck - $40 Elk - $75 Moose - $75 Deer - $75 Ram 1 - $75 Ram 2 - $75 Bear - $75 Eagle - $100 Quail -- $50 3rd from the left is a moose, and the bear has a fish in its mouth Prices below: Bear -$15 Roadrunner - $30 The one on the right is the roadrunner Smaller duck - $30 Scorpion -- $50 TM List

$$$ ANOTHER ONE OF A KIND

This isn't outdoorsey, per se, but perhaps someone here is a space buff. The space shuttle photo and embroidered uniform patch, which has all of the crew listed, were given to me by Maj. Gen. Joe Engle, who commanded two shuttle flights. As shown on the patch, the five-man crew included Engle as commander; Richard O. Covey, pilot; and James van Hoften, John M. Lounge, and William F. Fisher, mission specialists. Size is 12"x15" I spent an enjoyable week with Joe Engle and his son, USAF pilot Capt. Jon Engle on an archery elk hunt in SW Colo. during the 1990s. Jon had already done two tours in the Middle East, including a stint flying the infamous 'Warthog.' We stayed in a ranch house, and the stories told by both of them in front of the fireplace at night were pretty darn entertaining, to say the least. The inscription on the matt reads: "Tony -- We need a truck this big to haul in that bull of yours up on Gorry. Thanks for sharing a great elk hunt with Jon & me. Let's do it again! Good Hunting! -- Joe Engle -- Cdr. space shuttle" $125 I will consider reasonable offers but no trades. Payment via PayPal (buyer doesn't need an acct; just a CC or checking acct.) or cash only. 9. These vintage 1-inch, med. height bases and rings are all solid steel and come with all of the screws (the black tape is keeping the base screws from falling out), which are in excellent condition. The bases are marked 70A, which is the designation for the newer Winchesters M70s, as is my .264. I had changed them out when I went from a 40MM front scope lens to a 50mm. about 20 years ago. Everything has an NP3, satin silver, no-rust coating done by Robar Inc. There are a couple very teeny scratches in the top of the rear ring -- the left one in the first photo. $$$ A REAL one of a kind

I really debated whether I wanted to part with this but...here goes. This a VERY SPECIAL print done specifically to be auctioned at the Outdoor Writers Association of America's (OWAA) annual conference in Des Moines, Iowa, where the late noted artist Maynard Reece called home. The print, titled "Pheasant Cover," is 17.5"X22" The matt and oak frame with protective glass makes it 25"X37" overall. It was hand signed in ink by the artist. He died in July, 2020, so this item will only increase in value. See the bio below the photos. $250 I will consider reasonable offers but no trades. Payment via PayPal (buyer doesn't need an acct; just a CC or checking acct.) or cash only. Must be picked up near 67th Ave. & Camelback in Glendale, AZ. NO SHIPPING because of the fragile glass. The success and tradition of Maynard Reece's art has made his work the standard for North American waterfowl art. The range and variety of Reece's work are matched only by the variety of the waterfowl species he paints and the ranges of the continental flyways they traverse. The art of Maynard Reece captures the drama, the serenity and the elusive sense of reality of the wetlands. He brings a lifetime of experience to his art. The high esteem in which Reece is held by conservationists, sportsmen and by his colleagues in the art world is unmatched. The generation of wildlife artists that has followed him considers him their inspiration and model. The anatomical perfection with which Reece paints is a result of many years in the field observing, sketching and painting. Reece's honors are legion: His work has appeared frequently in prestigious magazines; he was 1973 Ducks Unlimited's Artist of the Year and honorary trustee of the organization; his paintings have been regularly included in the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum's "Birds in Art" show, and he was honored as Leigh Yawkey Woodson's 1989 Master Wildlife Artist; he has won two awards from the New York Art Directors' Club; he was commissioned by the government of Bermuda to design their indigenous wildlife postage stamps, and his art book, The Waterfowl Art of Maynard Reece, is an enduring favorite. It was followed by the publication of The Upland Bird Art of Maynard Reece. Maynard Reece's association with duck stamp programs alone spans forty years. The phenomenal success of his 1972 First of Iowa State Duck Stamp remains the benchmark by which all other programs are measured. The only five-time winner of the Federal Duck Stamp Competition — an accomplishment unlikely to be repeated — Maynard Reece has an unparalleled record of artistic achievement. His artwork is collected across the United States and Canada and throughout the world. Reece is a dynamic artist who is never satisfied; as he says, "I'm just beginning to see what is possible." 17. This is another of those "I hate to sell" items... The Klondyke Butte print was signed and given to me by noted artist Michael Fabritz (Rembrant on CWT) when I was writing the "How to Hunt Coues Deer" book in 2003. The part that is reproduced in B&W as the lead-in to the first chapter is only a small portion from the center of the artwork because it's actually a horizontal and I wanted to use a vertical image on that page. The original was done in pastels. Overall size with the white border is 15" x 23". It's in perfect condition since it's been wrapped in cellophane the whole time I've owned it. I've done extensive searches and can't find any of Mike's prints available for sale. His web site is also defunct. I will consider reasonable offers but no trades. Payment via PayPal (buyer doesn't need an acct; just a CC or checking acct.) or cash only. Must be picked up near 67th Ave. & Camelback in Glendale, AZ. SHIPPING at buyer's expense. 19. Small Arms of The World --12th Edition By Edward C. Ezell is the definitive manual and reference work for small arms produced by every country in the world - Rifles, handguns and much more. Published in 1983 by Stackpole Books, the 894 pg. volume measures 9"x 11" and contains hundreds of illustrations. My copy from the first printing of this edition is in like new, unread condition except for a couple small tears in the dust jacket from 40 years of shelf time. The original retail was $49.95 I will consider reasonable offers but no trades. Payment via PayPal (buyer doesn't need an acct; just a CC or checking acct.) or cash only if picked up near 67th Ave. & Camelback in Glendale, AZ. SHIPPING at buyer's expense. $25 ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Edward C. Ezell (deceased) update of W.H.B. Smith's classic work. As the Curator of Small Arms for the Smithsonian Institute, Dr. Ezell was this nation's foremost authority on small arms. The book is organized by nations and one may find several entries for the same firearm (the Mauser 98 or FN-FAL are good examples). Dr. Ezell preserved W.H.B. Smith's format of discussing the historical development of the particular firearm, the functioning of its parts, operating it and naturally, basic field stripping and reassembly. Unfortunately and probably because of space and cost, Smith's first chapter covering early firearm development was deleted and Dr. Ezell substitutes it with his update on submachine guns, handguns, rifles & carbines, machine guns and special purpose weapons (sniper rifles and suppressed weaponry). The final chapters discuss various ammunition and sporting firearms (mostly American). It is no empty boast that the jacket proclaims the book as, "An Encylcopedia of Global Weapons" and for a strictly budgeted reader, this is the ONE book to have. While this book won't make you an expert on the Garand, Mauser 98 or Lee-Enfield, but you'll know how to operate, disassemble and reassemble every one of them by the time you finish this book. Since being published in 1983, many newer firearms have been developed both here and abroad. Unfortunatley no substitute for Dr. Ezell has stepped forward to update this work. TM List
