thoughts on new coconino road rules

Another question, the map shows some roads as "SEASONAL". Can I assume this means when I go hunting in November, those roads will be closed ?

    Late season tactics

Almost every where you see articles and advice on hunting the rut. Most elk hunters take to the field in late October or November, well after the rut. (I have a late season tag this year) What your best advice and tactics for finding and killing the big ones long after the rut ?

So I have a question about the camping 30 feet from the road rule. Is that just for parking your truck ? Can you park within 30 feet of the road, and set your tent up another 100 feet back, as long as your truck is within 30 feet of the road ?

    Best show on TV!

I'm a fan of OYOA and Randy. He puts boot on the ground, shows what western hunting is really like. He is also a great spokesman for conservation, wildlife and hunting.

coconino forest changes starting in may

What they need to do; For every “Closed road; Put up a (closed) gate, drop a tree or bulldoze a berm across the entrance, and put up a “Road Closed” sign. What they will do, leave them open, and write tickets like crazy, making lots of money. I agree they need to close lots of the roads in the Coconino. Right now, a map of 6A looks like a congested inner city with trees. Other than Rattlesnake and Pine Grove, it’s almost impossible to get more than a mile from the nearest road. The problem, as I see it, is they are using this as a revenue generating opportunity.

Tell us about your elk rifle, and cartridge?

A Ruger MK II, SS .338 with a Leo 2.5X8 B&C, barrel cut to 22", dropped into a Rimrock stock. Handloads with a 225 Hornady, or factory Federal 210 Partitions. I'm looking at a muzzleloader to round out the stable, probably going to go with a TC Omega "Dream Season", with some BH 209 and Barns T-EZs.

Recipes while out in the sticks...

For the most part, I’m a “seal-a-meal, boiling bag guy. I make up my favorite meals, and seal them up in large servings in boiling bags. I leave a large pot of water on the Coleman, return to camp late, and start the stove and throw in a bag. Then, take off boots, open a beer and dinner is hot & ready. Some of my favorites; Jambalaya, with shrimp, chicken and HOT sausage. Slow smoked, BBQ pork shoulder over dirty rice . Kielbasa with roasted red peppers, onions and potatoes. Chili Verde Of course, we always have a steak night, Prime aged New Yorks or Ribeyes, and a seafood night ( see photo in above post).
