    Deer/Sheep Regs

Antis would have to buy a license and a tag, highly doubt they would spend the money knowing it would directly benefit the exact thing they despise.
  2. It's OTC so "antis" don't have to put in for tags. The reason it hasn't happened for bear and lion is you're required to physically check in your bear or lion. It would take a large amount of man power but AZGFD should have the same requirement for archery hunters with the mandatory harvest reporting.

Antis at it again. Lions and Bears.

The recommendations that were proposed are exactly what passed on Friday, so the only spring hunts for 2023 bear are the non-permit hunts listed.
  5. When the department brings the commission orders for deer to the commission in December make sure and send in your comments or if you can show up in person and fill out a blue card. The same guy from the United States Humane society was at the meeting again today and spoke about the lion and bear orders, he's becoming a familiar face at the meetings.
  6. I believe he felt the seasons were to short. The department has made no effort to hide these limited entry hunts as being pure money makers to help meet their $10M in 10 years goal.
  7. Commision approved all the orders, archery harvest reporting will be just like bear and lion, you can either call it in or do it online. Order 30 this year will be much like last year with 4 mule deer hunts, 3 whitetail, 3 elk and 1 goulds turkey. Commissioner Davis wants to see the hunts more like the raffle and auction with year long seasons so expect to see some changes when they are brought up again at the December meeting.
  8. Those thresholds for 36B and 34A are for whitetail and they won't even come close to being filled.
  9. So let’s say the department sold 25,000 OTC tags last year. So now they cap NR at 2500 that doesn’t mean those 2500 NR won’t exceed the 10% threshold for number of deer to be taken. Unit 8 is a total of 15 MD, heck one truck load of Utards could reach that in one weekend. All the other species short of cow elk and javelina are 10% cap per a hunt number.
  10. I wonder how the department will put a 10% cap on an OTC tag? They have no idea what 10% is going to be.
  11. They eliminated all of the draw spring hunts, one of the speakers yesterday told the commission that once it makes it to the ballet vote he is confident that Arizonans will eliminate all bear, mt. lion and bobcat hunting and he is probably right.
  12. Seems like most years the auction and raffle guys kill in velvet.

    OTC hunts for 2023

If I had to guess if their mandatory reporting isn't up and running they will continue to do the OTC like they are currently. If they believe the harvest is greater than 20% they will put the unit to a draw. I would guess that the regulations will pretty much mirror what they are now.

    OTC hunts for 2023

Archery Over-the-Counter Units (nonpermit-tag units):  Archery hunt opportunity for all mule deer units not listed above as archery draw units and all white-tailed deer units may be offered in August-September, December, and/or January and each unit or grouping of units will have a harvest limit (harvest threshold) established, provided the appropriate Commission Rules and technology infrastructure are in place to allow for and manage a harvest limit approach.  The harvest limit will be set to achieve an archery deer harvest that represents 20% of the overall harvest in each unit(s). When the harvest limit in a unit(s) is reached the over-the-counter archery deer season in that unit(s) will close for the remainder of the season dates listed in the hunt regulations for that unit(s); Arizona Game and Fish Department Hunt Guidelines for Fall 2023 through Spring 2028 13 harvest limit will be based on the August through January time period. south of the Colorado River, without established harvest objectives, will be offered according to the table below.  If the Commission Rules and technology infrastructure are not yet in place then archery deer hunt opportunity will either be offered as over-the-counter hunts managed not to exceed 20% of the overall harvest or as archery draw hunts.
  16. It also maximizes compensation to no more than $25, that's huge when it comes to people running around chasing that big ole finders fee.

    Tag increase

Actually WY doesn't have either preference points or bonus points for deer, elk and antelope for residents it is strictly a random draw. NR have the choice of buying preference points or just entering the random draw in WY. If you're a NR with preference points in WY you may want to try and use them soon as the WY residents are working real hard at getting their state to go to a 90/10 spilt on their tags. They are starting with the big 5 first and will then go after deer, elk and antelope. They have a big task force right now working on it and have already gotten a bill headed to the legislature.

I must work for the AZGFD because I do a little research and I don't bash them for every decision they make that I don't agree with.

    TRAIL CAM BAN UPDATE 3/17/21

I'm not sure what is "public" or confidential but I'm guessing if you really wanted to you could put in a request I think there is something like the Freedom of Information Act. Flatlander I believe could probably give you the run down on how to get information out of the AZGFD. If I had to guess though I would bet if the camera is related to an on going research project they might not be willing to share that information until maybe the project was over.

    TRAIL CAM BAN UPDATE 3/17/21

😂, that rule has been in place long before the flying rule, the baiting ban and now trail cams, and all the info that I copy and paste is right in the regulations.

    TRAIL CAM BAN UPDATE 3/17/21

    D. This Section does not apply to any activity allowed under A.R.S. § 17-302, to a person acting within the scope of their official duties as an employee of the state or United States, or as authorized by the Department. This will also be at the end of the flying rule.
