I am very new to hunting. i put in for the 24b coues hunt December 13-31st 2019. this will be my first deer hunt if i get drawn. If anyone can give me some advice on locations to hunt, guns and optics that would be great!
  2. Im new to deer hunting and id have to say so far im finding doe and a lot of poo just no bucks. I was hopping someone would point me in the right direction or kust give me some pointers. Or is there a better unit to hunt otc tags
  3. Hey guys I drew the 24b Oct rifle hunt for coues but am not familiar with anything but rodgers trough area...any suggestions?
  4. I am not new to hunting by any means! I am from Eastern Oregon have always hunted anything I can hand on a tag for, especially Mule Deer, which I have take a 176 that is 32 1/2 wide and a 190 so far. I now live in Maricopa, AZ and drew my first Coues tag for unit 24b, 2nd rifle season, which is the first week of Novemeber. I have read a lot on Coues deer, never hunted them or been in 24b and if anybody is looking for a hunting partner for this hunt that knows this area at all I'm game!! Forwarn, I am a hard core hunter and have no problem hiking my butt in the most rugged stuff and do so happily to get to places most won't think about! I just know nothing about this unit and very little about Coues deer but hoping to take a pretty good one this year regardless! If anybody wants help scouting and/or a hunting partner for this unit let me know! I am not interested in road hunting and just staying within 1/2 a mile of the road, I hunt! And yes I do keep secret spots secret! I'm pretty laid back and easy going and serious about hunting, ask my wife, she will roll her eyes 20 times over! lol

    advice on 24B

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum but have read and learned a lot from everyone. I've been hunting my whole life with my dad and brothers, and decided to involve my wife in this passion. Last year was her first deer hunt where she took a beautiful mule deer out of 22. It was 183" so not bad for her first deer hunt, actually makes me sick because I've never taken anything that big yet. Well her luck continues, she drew 24B December Whitetail. So I'm a little familiar with the unit. I've done some hunting there, but I've focused more in 22 and primarily hunted mule deer in 24B. Would love to have any advice someone can give us for a great whitetail in the late season of this unit. I know I'll be competing with my archery friends but would love to give her an opportunity to take a nice buck for another trophy on our wall. I drew the later (November) whitetail tag, so I plan on doing a lot of scouting this year for the unit and would love to explore the area. Any help would be much appreciated.
  6. As a reward for reading, here's a picture I found of our beautiful desert. It looks about like the area I'm hunting. I've been fumbling around through the desert (mostly down low in 24b) the last couple of years trying to find a buck to kill with my bow. After all this time, I've realized I still haven't learned something critical to hunting desert mule deer. What type of area makes a feeding area? And what should I look for in a bedding area? What makes one section of hill, wash, or flat better for feeding than others? Especially this time of year what plants are the deer focused on? I still haven't even figured out what makes up the bulk of their diet when they're below the elevations with sagebrush and such. Now and then I spot bedded deer, or deer traveling to/from beds. Or I will find sign indicating beds from a previous days rest. But for the life of me I can't figure out much sense to where they will be. Have you seen any patterns? Do these desert deer prefer thicker cover for bedding? Or would they rather bed on an open hillside with a clear view all directions? Last year I struck out, and this year despite weeks of scouting its not looking too good. I can't consistently find deer or predict where they will be or go. This week my bow hunt opens up again, and I really want to fill the freezer. Basically I'm hoping to move up the learning curve a little bit further so I can have a better chance at tagging something, anything, this year. Any advice or tips appreciated here or in PMs.
  7. I'm looking for a hunting partner for my hunt in AZ 24b. I'm planning on heading out on Nov 5th and go until I get one or have to come back for work on Nov 9th. I'm going to try to backpack it as I did a little scouting in Reavis Ranch area so I'd be interested in going back there but I'm also open to what others have going. I'm a early 30's father of 3 and I work in public safety and live in East Mesa.
