  1. So I was out hiking and found this dead bear. At first I thought maybe it had died from a fight with another bear... But this is the second dead bear I have found in this area. The first bear I found dead was a few months ago, a little under a mile away from this one. Same thing as this one, no visible wound or gunshot hole. Both bears were found close to different springs. So I started thinking... I have been hunting for over 20 years and never found a dead bear and now 2 of them in a few months close to each other. Maybe they were killed by another big boar, or maybe they drank some tainted water from a mine shaft nearby, or maybe someone is poisoning them? I would guess both bears were in the 3 to 4 year old range around 200 pounds. I also believe I have this same bear on trail camera a couple of months ago about 3 miles away and he looked healthy. Anyone else ever find anything like this? Or have any ideas?

    Skulls

**Unbelievable response! All are spoken for now. Thanks so much for the response.** I have some newly cleaned/whitened skulls that I really don't need. These skulls were from a local taxidermist: they weren't wanted when the animals were brought in to be mounted. He was going to throw them away. Since I clean skulls, I hated to see them go to waste. So I took them, cleaned them and would like to sell, trade or even donate them to a school or other worthy cause. I didn't take them to make a profit; even though I have time and some money in them, I just didn't want to see them wasted. They are professionally cleaned, odor-free and ready to go. There are five bears, three javelina, two mountain lions and three bobcats. Make me an offer, let's talk trade or tell me who needs them. Top of my wishlist: an early '70s, original, gold single-mantle Coleman lantern. Call Gary at 928-978-2627, PM me or email me at antlerfinder@hotmail.com
  4. Im over by the 260 and Young Hwy and brought a bear tag w me as well (just in case). I've seen 5 Muley does but no bucks this evening but I just got here so that is a good sign. I thought for a second I might be doing a quick turnaround to no avail because the only thing sticking out we're their big ole ears. If anyone has an Elk tag I would be happy to assist. I've seen 2 Cows and a really nice Buck. I didn't count the points but he had a really nice rack on em. Good luck if you're hunting and congrats if you tagged out. Hopefully I'll be one of those tomorrow.

    Hunters first

Hunter was with his dad on the hunt we did for him earlier in the month. He is a fantastic kid, most everyone in camp could not believe he was 13. After 2 days of close calls earlier in the month the unit closed and Hunter had to go back to school. He got caught up on school and his dad informed me if we had any openings he would love to get Hunter back out for another chance. Sunday morning at daylight they rolled in. After running into some other bear hunters in the spot we originally had planned to hunt we went to plan B. We changed country and rigged a bear late and did not end up getting him caught. The next 2 days were brutal, the feed seemed to have changed again and the bears had moved from where we finding them last week. Tuesday night Randy gave Hunter the option to go home so he wouldn't miss anymore school. Thankfully for us he stayed and we were able to get him what may be the prettiest bear I have ever seen. Literally if you run the hide one way it is a golden blonde, when you run it the other a strawberry red. Being his first big game kill Hunter got the honors of gutting the bear. He put a fantastic shot on it with a .44 lever action. It was awesome seeing the excitement in the kids face when he realized "thats MY BEAR" Ironically, he killed this bear on the 4th day of his hunt and his dad killed his on the 4th day as well. This was truly a nailbiter, the night before we found out the quota had been met and the unit was going to close and dark Wednesday. I think we will all remember this hunt for a long time, and we will look forward to future hunts with Randy and Hunter. In my opinion these type of hunts are the best part of being an outfitter. -Mike

    Bear rug question

Hey guys, I was thinking of trying the over the counter bear hunt this year since there is one in the area I'll be deer hunting. I don't want to get a mount and don't have room for a bear rug but I don't want the hide to go to waste either since many people like to use them. Is there a market for selling raw bear hides and is that even legal? I looked all through the regs and didn't find anything talking about that directly. I just want to know what to do with it if I get one this year. Thanks

  18. Heres the culprit! This bear found my deer before I could get it out. I left to pack the first load out and when I returned I found him having dinner. So I did the smart thing and..... I stalked within 15 yards while he was eating. Hearing him snap the ribs as he would break them off sounded like a 22 shot. Then hearing him chew the bones.... oh man! I had a archery tag but guess what i packed out in the first load? Yep. My bow. Love the color. Looks like he has socks on the front paws. I hope we meet again in Sept.
