Pedersoli .50 Kentucky rifle ball and patch question

Recommended Posts

I recently bought this rifle and took it out for the first time. I am using .490 rb's and a 0.02 thick pre lubed patch. With that combo I could not get the ball started no matter what. I've been shooting BP all my adult life and am familiar with what goes into loading them. That said, I need some suggestions on what to do. I'm sure someone else has had to deal with it. I've never had to use a 0.01 patch before, do they even exist? Or do I need to find a 0.485 rb? Any productive input is appreciated.

Your better off with a thicker patch, than having difficulties loading.

Using a .485 should be easier loading and possibly better accuracy!

Maybe a crown issue. Try and give it a good polishing.

That's only 5 thousandths, in your opinion should try a .480?

I use a .010-.012 patch and 110gr ffg my .53 Hawken, no issues, been killing deer for years with it...

For my knowledge, what size ball are you using in your .53?
