Locked gates in 36A

Recommended Posts

Folks I hate posts like this but I am pretty pissed off. The rancher has only 2 gates locked on the entire ranch. Both of them are at corrals where the ranch uses them for roundups and distribution of the livestock. The ranch has provided alternate routes to get around to the areas on the other side of each corral. Please someone enlighten me as to why it is necessary for scumbags to have to bust the locks or grind the chains off of the gates! I have lived on the ranch for over a year now and we only have trouble with this during hunting season.

Smugglers don’t travel through here during the day. Yesterday they broke it around 2:30 yesterday afternoon. I spoke to some other hunters. They said some guys on a Cam am yellow and white stopped at there camp about that time and were asking about the corral and the roads behind it. I think that is who did it. Couldn’t find them today. Most likely not hunters.

The s last thing i want to do as a hunter is cross the rancher of an area im hunting. It does nothing but create animosity. In fact i try to report dead cattle, lion sightings, leaking troughs ect. If i can. You shouldn't have to do this but maybe hang one of those "smile your on camera" signs on the gate. Or electrify the gate during hunting season lol

after working that area for over a decade, the smugglers do drive around routes all day long 24/7.  the smugglers try to take advantage of shift changes to run and load their contraband, and 2pm to 4pm is shift change time! many of the smugglers I caught over the years in 36A area were dressed like hunters, and when first stopped said they were hunting. it's the perfect disguise!  the only way to know for sure is throw up a camera on the gates!

What ranch is this on?

Probably Marley...I'm guessing off the Batamote Road based on where I met Lee during my mulie hunt and the gates we talked about. That gate frustrates me having to drive all the way around, but that's no excuse for cutting the lock or the chain.
