Geology Help

Recommended Posts

Anyone out there who can help identify what this is? I have a bunch of guesses, but curious if anyone knows for certain. Seems like possibly a quartz base with yellow / amber colored crystals growing out of it.

Looks like calcite. Formed in a limestone cavern.

That's a terrible picture, did you take the rock home and clean it up?

Looks like a possible piece of flowstone, calcium carbonate. If it is, put some vinegar on it and there will be a reaction.

Slight possibility of asbestos, any loose fibers?

Better pics please.

You might google asbestos, naturally occurring, before you carry it around.  The major ACMs in nature I believe are amosite, chrysotile and tremolite.  Spelling rough, but you get the idea.

I don't know what that is but I do have a geology meme to contribute.  (It's difficult to find a segue for a geology meme.)

Did you have to dig for it or was it just lying on the surface?  Let us know when you get confirmation.
