Release 20 center console fishing boat $10,000 obo

Recommended Posts

Selling my fishing boat. Hate to do it because I have done so much in it but I need better seating for our growing family.
It’s a 1990 Release 20, 20 ft center console with a 2003 Mercury 200 EFI 2 stroke (electronic fuel injection, meaning no gas/oil mixing). I was told from the previous owner that this started as a Game and Fish boat in Florida, moved to Colorado where it got the Mercury outboard, than down to New Mexico which so where I bought it. Features include, minn kota riptide 74lb thrust trolling motor, lowrance hook 4x fish finder, lots of storage , two live wells, trim tabs, CMC power lift jack plate, 12 rod holders, removable poling platform, Bimini top is in good shape, 40 gallon fuel tank, folding Fulton hitch, on board radio, air horn, 2 batteries in console, 2 for trolling motor (all test well on multimeter and stored on battery tender).
Some background on the boat. I bought it in May 2019 and used it mostly for lees ferry and lake Powell. I’d take it as far as the San Juan when dangling rope was still in service. After buying it, I worked out most the kinks. Replaced all of the hubs and bearings and installed bearing buddies. Tires and spare in good shape, lights all work. Completely rebuilt the trailer bunks with pressure treated wood, new carpet and new brackets.  I had Performance Marine in Glendale do a full inspection, maintenance overhaul on it including the water pump and a new bilge pump. I also had him replace the shifting/throttle cable because it was too sloppy. Unfortunately this model of outboard is before they had hour meters but he cut his teeth on them and felt it was very healthy. I replaced the wiring harness on the jack plate because it was working sporadically and now works great. The motor has Quicksilver repower stickers on it which was a program Mercury had where they completely rebuild motors at the factory.
Back in may of this year, I decided it was time to sell it. I arranged one last Powell trip with some buddies as a farewell trip and to make sure it was all in order to sell. Long story short after a full day of catching fish we lost power and were stranded up in last chance bay. That was a pricey tow. It would start and run great but wouldn’t shift into gear. I got it home and pulled off the lower unit and found the pinion gear had come apart. After talking to some trusted boat friends in Florida I purchased a used Mercury lower unit from Citrus Outboard Recycling in Florida. It is now all back together with an operational lower unit, fresh gear oil and a new water pump. We took it to Roosevelt this weekend and she ran like a champ. I’m glad it happened to me or I would have felt horrible if I sold it and then it happened.
What it needs - the pump for the live wells just recently quit working. I don’t use them enough to want to change it so I just bring a bucket in case I want to. Trim tabs don’t deploy. The hydraulic motor comes on but they won’t lower. Could be a solenoid but they are $100 a piece and the unit itself is $300. Another thing I didn’t care enough about to fix. There are plenty of loose brackets and dings and old trim on it, it’s a 35 year old boat. Takes in a little water somewhere when your using it, I think I know where and I am going to seal it. It’s a small amount and it doesn’t take any just sitting. I camp multiple nights out of it and it never takes a drop of water while anchored over night.
You won’t win beauty contests but man is it a work horse. Ive had a lot of adventures in it. It can float in dang near 10 inches of water and i pack a lot of weight to camp out of it. Ice chests, propane, extra gas, generator, water, couple buddies with tents and clothes. It still has a lot to offer someone who just wants a well rounded boat to get out and fish. Also would make a great bow fishing rig. For a serious buyer, I may be able to organize a meetup at a lake halfway between us for a test run. Asking $10k obo, located in Pearce AZ.
