Hearing Protection

Recommended Posts

Last Saturday while helping my Daughter on her WT tag

I got in a position where I felt the need to shoot a rattle snake.

I have made shots like this in the past with maybe some minor ringing

but this time the first words out of my mouth were "Holly ~^$& that was loud"

I have suffered all week with substantial hearing loss and played heck on the phone.

I have just hung a pair of the ear plugs in my safe where I will see them

and added another pair to my pack with intentions of buying more and hanging

them on all my guns with the promise off having them around my neck

ANY time I am in the field with a gun and no excuses for not putting them in.

I already have poor hearing from working steel for many years and it's no fun.

PROTECT your hearing as best you can and you will be much happier ;)

The easiest thing i have found is the banded ear plugs. They are the foam earplugs held together with a plastic band. I wear em around my neck all day and they are there when i need em.

While on my hunt this year I forgot my plugs in the truck. I was shooting a 7mm rem mag with a break. My left ear is still ringing after two weeks. I will never forget them again.

Absolutely!!!!

After many years operating heavy equipment and being "too cool" to wear hearing protection, I have a constant annoying ringing in my ears. My hunting partner/son has opened a completely new dimension to our time in the woods. He has been deaf since he was an infant, and I am constantly reminded of what I have taken for granted and thrown away. Not to mention my patient wife puts up with me constantly saying "what", and "excuse me, I didn't catch that". I now have ear plugs in all my packs, and vehicles.

Sorry to hear about your ears Mike,

Excellent reminder. Please guys, take the time to put in ear plugs. Life is nicer when you can easily hear your loved ones.

There are times I don't want to hear the wife, but she accuses me of selective hearing loss.
