Non-typical Elk Pick Up

Recommended Posts

A good friend has a cabin up north near where we found this non-typical elk rack during a hunt several years ago. He stained the antlers (they were starting to get white where the sun hit them), and painted the skull and mounted it on a piece of weathered barn wood. I thought it came out great. It now graces his garage as a fitting reminder of a great time in the woods. Here are some pics:

Cool looking rack! The stain job looks really good to me.

+1, yeah do know what he used. I have my own concoction but was wondering, it's great stain job, does rack justice.

Dustin, please forgive the delay in answering your question. He used Watco Danish Oil finish in Medium Walnut. He applied it liberally at the bases and more sparingly towards the tips.
