What to Do.

Recommended Posts

My change container is getting so full

I am have to shake it every weekend when I try to add more.

My dream hunt was Dall Sheep but realize that is not going to happen.

SO:

I am thinking about three choices that are more affordable.

PA corn feed big Easter whitetail (I know Bill)

NM Orxy or San Carlos Coues.

PA is a easy thing for me to do since I grew up there,

my Dad and his Wife own a country house there next to

(3/4 mile) Carols Sons place and could stay there.

He hunts but is more of a meat hunter and has some real health problems

and with attempts from my FB friends to locate my hunting buddy from there

coming up empty not sure I could count on a big boy.

I have lots of friends in Pa and sure I can find the help needed if thats the choice.

I just love the look of an Oryx and think it would make a killer mount.

I have talked with some members here and feel I can get some good guidance

and maybe some help from them.

San Carlos I just do not know much about but will be researching it more.

What do you guys think?

Or do you have any others suggestions.

I have always had a bad feeling about Old Mexico

and the price has just gotten to high for me.

Thanks

All three would be cool. If it was me I would have to say San Carlos Coues since it is close to home and second would be the Eastern Whitetail. But it is up to you my friend it is what you want to do the most but with the money you make just go for them all. :P

Been saving my change since Dec of 03.

As much as I believe is in there wont cover the Oryx Tag but close.

Whats a San Carlos tag cost if I could go camp in line?

I would go with the oryx. San Carlos would be an awesome hunt and a great chance at a monster and the Eastern would be nice. I just think the new experience is worth it more. I dont know how much it costs but for another idea...Alaska? I have always wanted to go there just to go there, then throw in there big game. Just an idea. Do what interests you most.

OUCH!

I think Oryx is $1600.00 plus license.

I think I can do PA for under $200.00

Pay for the flight, car rental and everything

and done in style for less than a grand total.

As you know, the PA Whitetail is a great hunt. One of my Favorites is Archery Rut, last week or 2 of the bowhunt. Cheap, and plenty of antlerless tags to be had. You could probably do that hunt and send all that cornfed meat home for less than the Oryx trip. San Carlos would be real tempting also.

I wish I had this problem.

Plan on camping out two days before for that san carlos tag especially if you want a Dec one. Unless you hire a guide to stand in line then you have to pay them too. its 1000 for nov and 1500 plus some other fees prob shy of 1700ish when its said and done not including the charge for someone getting you one for dec/jan. good luck

Squeeeeek....Squeeeeeeeeek!  :P Any outta state hunt that you can do for under 2K in cheap IMO..... ;) Put in for the Oryx... it will take a few years to draw most likely... and that will give time to save a few more $$$. ;) Also you need to get a US Airways FFplan going... then you can fly for free when you go to PA... ;)

I have not been on a plane since 1983

so I do not see that as an issue for me.

Are you going to PA with me or have you even looked at it?

Shared expenses and well under a grand.

Bet I can even arrange a great home cooked meal

from all my old girl friends each night :P

May have to pick me up for the next days hunt though

Alaskan Moose! I'm saving for that trip. One of my best friends is a school superintendent up along the Yukan River. He's been up there for 10 years now and is about ready to kill me because I haven't gone up there yet to hunt. Being in the bush, he is allowed 5 caribou and one moose a year.

Just saw him over Christmas and he said he found a few 65 inch plus moose just waiting for me. I may be selling my truck soon to make this happen:).
