Small tomato looking fruits

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I've seen these small plants in two different locations now that have small tomato looking fruits on them. About a half inch in diameter. I've seen them near Iron mountain and near Orme/Dugas. Anyone have any idea what they are. I can't find anything online unless they really are just tomatos of sorts. Thanks

My guess is Lycium fremontii. Also known as wolf berry, box thorn, and a few other names. It's in the Solanaceae family and the fruits taste just fine

I know what you're talking about but I don't know the name. They are little green tomato looking things on a short shrub.

Desert hackberry?
^^ This might be a better guess than mine. Celtis Pallida. Ulmaceae family.

Depending on location. I always get them mixed up.

You have me stumped. I don't think that is either Lycium fremontii or Celtis pallida.

Mr. Smith's guess seems to be the closest.

Those are Silver leaf night shade, also called White horse thistle or tomato weed. It is not an edible plant. It is a pretty common weed throughout the west.

Now when you find some blackberries or raspberries be sure to let us know the location too!
