Hey Willie, yeah I have a few uncles and cousins from California and a new father in law from Illinois. Yes those are Dunham boots my little brother is the family hand me down child. Only person I know to only bring one set of clothes for a 7 day hunt, cause he knows I have 21 days worth in my bags lol. So jealous of everyone in the woods, never move during hunting season.

Again good pictures, actually everyone's pictures were great. Just had to laugh when I saw that one boot in the picture and recognized it immediately. There was a time when they were as popular as Danners use to be.

Take care, Willie

Just got back from 6a and the bulls were off the hook this morning. We knocked down one great bull this morning and should of had another one. Hardly any people hunting were I am. Got my nephew on a 340" 6x this morning at 68yds but just to far for him to shoot.

I just wanted to share some success we had on Monday in 6A. This is my first bull and I still can't believe it. The taxidermist scored the bull at 350 1/8"

Thank you. Well my brother in-law and were hitting it hard since opening morning and we were into bulls every morning within 30 minutes. The bulls were very quiet and all we could really do was spot and stalk. Sunday night was the only night we found a bull in the evening and I missed on a downhill 60 yard shot. Right over his back. Monday was the slowest day we hadn't seen a bull all day and we put in some miles.Monday evening we hit one spot and the wind was all wrong so we backed out and moved to a different area. Wind was good hitting us in the face and about 6:30 we stopped and were ready to make it back to the truck. In one last attempt I decided to try and cow call to get a response. A few seconds later we heard a bugle but not just any bugle we knew he was on his way and coming in fast. We had seconds to get behind a bush and I was going to position my brother in-law a little further back to continue calling but then he was already there so we stayed put. He hung up at the end of a clearing and was looking around trying to find where the call came from. Then he started trotting again and circling us to get wind. I immediately went to the other side of the bush and drew back. I asked for a range and he was way too far and now staring in our direction. It felt like I held my bow for the longest time until I couldn't do it anymore. So I attempted to let down with him staring and just knew he was going to spook. Thankfully he didn't notice and it took all my strength to let down as smoothly and as subtly as I could. He began moving around us again still out of wind and slowly coming in closer. Finally he stopped provided me with a broadside shot with his eyes behind a tree. I drew back and took a couple deep breaths trying to control my nerves. I let the shot go and saw him take off. I didn't see the shot but not 5-7 seconds later we heard a large crash. We weren't sure if he was down or crashing through the trees in the canyon he ran into. I slowly made my way to the shot area and stood there still in shock. My brother in-law followed and started looking for sign and I just heard him say "Dude, come here" and I looked down and there was blood everywhere. We peaked down the canyon and there he was piled up about 125 yards away. It was over. I don't know if he moved or my shot went forward but it went in the neck and severed the major arteries. It was over very quickly for him and that I was thankful for.

I fully intended to take the first bull that would have provided me with the opportunity. I really just wanted to gain some experience and get the first one done. I spent tons of time this summer scouting, practicing and working on my calls. I think the hard work we put in paid off and I happy we were able to get it done.

I tagged out on my first bull in 6A monday afternoon. This was by far one of the hardest hunts I have ever been on. There was barely any talking, which was only about a one hour window in the morning. We hunted monday morning and didn't get on any shooter bulls. With my moral at an extreme low, we headed back to camp and packed up. Me and my buddy decided to stop and walk around in a spot that was on our way home that we had scouted a little, but not much. Before we knew it, the cows were mewing like crazy and all of a sudden, my bull started screaming. This was all happening at 1:30PM. We watched the direction that he was walking and realized that he was headed straight for a saddle on the top of the ridge. We moved quickly over the backside of the hill we were on and basically sprinted to get into position near the saddle. Right when we got visual of the saddle, we saw tips coming up through the saddle. We called him into 40 yards and I sent a swhacker through both of his lungs! He ran 80 yards and went tumbling down the hill. This hunt consisted of blood, sweat, and tears for sure and this is by far my most earned kill to date. I couldn't be happier with him. Taped him out at 318". Headed back up tomorrow to try and get my dad tagged out.
