Horton Creek Hike with my Kids

Recommended Posts

I had a great time taking my kids out to Horton Creek for some exercise and further introduction to the wonderful out doors. Every time I go out with them, it reminds me that I should do it more often.

We started out at the Horton Creek trailhead outside of Payson. I live in Gilbert, and it is exactly 2 hours, door to trailhead. Perfect for kids between 3 and 10. Level ground, water, beautiful views.

Look closely at one of the pics, it is wet on one side, and dry on the other. That is because the stream disappears into the ground. You could actually hear a draining sound- it was cool, and the kids loved it.

I also ran into the biggest wasp I have ever seen. Oh, and caught a little stock rainbow in the process (we threw it back). It was a great day.post-13295-0-00250600-1430021313_thumb.jpgpost-13295-0-90920900-1430021325_thumb.jpgpost-13295-0-89777200-1430021336_thumb.jpgpost-13295-0-06383400-1430021350_thumb.jpgpost-13295-0-23396000-1430021365_thumb.jpgpost-13295-0-20697200-1430021371_thumb.jpgpost-13295-0-47858000-1430021380_thumb.jpgpost-13295-0-25981600-1430021391_thumb.jpgpost-13295-0-67402400-1430021403_thumb.jpg

Did you actually catch the fish on Horton, because the pic by the river looks like one of my favorite holes on Tonto. I love that area. Our friends have a cabin next to catch-a-trout that we stay at.

Thanks for the report
