How to Stream Video to Chartplotter

For the first time ever, you have the ability to stream your action camera through the chartplotter on your boat. All you need is a Garmin VIRB X/XE action camera with a Class 10 or higher microSD card and a GPSMAP 7400/7600 or 8000 series¹ chartplotter.

Make your fishing and boating videos much more interesting with compelling G-Metrix overlays such as boat speed, water depth, and water temperature. This information is sent to your camera directly from NMEA 2000 connected devices on the boat.

Connecting your devices is a very simple process. To begin, you will need to make sure your chartplotter is updated to version 5.60 or later, then follow the steps below.

From Chartplotter:

Home --> Settings --> Communications
Select Wi-Fi Network
Turn Wi-Fi ON
If you donât already have a password, you will need to set one up.

From VIRB X/XE:

Menu --> Wi-Fi --> ON
Select Join
Select Chartplotter Network Name
You will see a popup that prompts you to enter a password. Select YES.
Enter Password

Now your VIRB X/XE should be connected to your chartplotter and youâre ready to capture your fishing trip in a new and exciting way. For a different perspective on your videos, record the screen of your chartplotter by using the free Garmin Helm mobile app, available for download in the App Store, or Google Play. Note that recording is only supported on Apple devices.

This is such a cool feature because you can run Panoptix on one half of the screen, plus your VIRB and your mapping, 2D sonar or DownVü on the other half. You can now watch the fish eat your lure LIVE at the exact same time as youâre setting the hook. How cool is that?
