Dialing in my 300 Win Mag

Recommended Posts

Got out to the range over the weekend and was happy with the results. Decided to shoot 210 LRBT with 75 grains of H1000 jumping the lands .050. I installed the Jewell trigger and torqued stock screws and while I was at it checked scoped screws, all good. Started at the top right first two rounds low, adjusted up three clicks shot three more. The trigger at 1 pound was a bit to light for my taste so I adjusted the pull to 2 pounds. Moved to top left shot two rounds bottom right, adjusted 3 clicks left 1 click up three more rounds called it good. Let the rifle cool down completely then went to center target four rounds all touching then pulled one low :) . Moved to bottom right four rounds one hole pulled last round low :D . I figured out the best way to shoot a great 5 shot group is only shoot four rounds and stop :P

It is a VAIS Break that was machined and installed by a member from this site. Here is a pic of it and some pics of some steel we shot at 1125 yards, the three larger splashes are from the 300 WIN it took 7 shots to get there but a ton of fun to hit from that range, that was the first time I shot past 600 yards. It is addicting.

Very impressive 1125 yd group! What were the weather conditions, especially wind direction and speed?

There was ZERO wind the guys I was shooting with had the Kestrel 5700 and was reading 0 to 1.1 on their meter about 70 degrees if I recall. I will say a 1 to 2 mile an hour left to right will push that bullet a tad . No wind made it much easier.

PM the contact for the Brake.
