what r the roads like?  can u do this hunt by flying to az and using a rental car?

Well, I haven't been down there yet, so I can't answer that question. You could always call AzG&F and ask to speak to the units wildlife manager, they always respond to questions. I'd be willing to bet you could drive a rental to several areas to camp and hike in though.

I'll be doing at least 1 scouting trip, probably in March, and I'll post a report.

My second Goulds tag! Drew the early hunt in 35A, which was my 1st choice. I got tag #14 out of 15, with 11 bonus points!

I got tag #13 for that hunt with 11 points. I'm going to try to get out there for the survey in the Spring. Good luck out there!

What survey? Game and Fish? When is it, maybe we can team up.

I spent some time with the game specialist for that region and her advice was to hook up with the southern AZ wild turkey federation and help with the game and fish survey. I don't have the date yet but it should be within 60 days of the start of the hunt. She said they could use the help, and it's nice to pick out your gobbler ahead of time. I've never hunted that unit so I am going to need all the help I can get.

In the past the AZGFD has sent a letter out to those that have drawn 35A&B tags with the date of the survey.  If I remember correctly they ask that you let them know if you plan to attend so they can let the turkey chapter know how many are coming because they feed you dinner Saturday night.  I have done the surveys 3 times and it is awesome.  The Game and Fish basically has survey routes that they have been doing for years so they hand out a printed topo route and you go survey the route recording what you see.  Then at night you can go over all the routes with everyone.  Usually they get all the routes covered Saturday so Sunday you can really home in on where you think you might want to hunt.  Every time I've done the surveys they were within a month of the hunt.  Great group of guys and gals that put it on.

I HAVE HUNTED 35 A about 50 years- know the area about as good as anyone.  Yes, you can do it just as you said .  maybe you should get one with an all wheel drive- for the small back roads, Sometimes we have big storms about Turkey-time, But it dries up fast. Good luck. You should have no problem finding a nice Gobbler. Gould Gobblers are big, and the most beautiful off all turkey. I know of about 8 watering holes - right off HWY 83; That could end your hunt too quick.

I am so frustrated. I have been in the draw from day one. I understand I am a NR, but come on, I have 27 points. I made one mistake and missed a deadline while on another hunt. There are 4 residents and 2 non residents that have more points than me. How can I NOT draw a Gould’s tag?!? This will be like drawing a desert sheep tag for me 🙂

2020 has to be my year.

Game and fish doesn't like you. You should just give up or maybe when it comes to az turkey you are unlucky in the draw

Ya , Its Luck. .I drew with 11 points 2 years ago. And I drew an early Rifle Bull tag in 1996 with only 3 points. But my last one 4 years ago they made me wait. I had 19 or 20.  Am at 27 for sheep and 63 in 2 weeks . Will I get that Sheep tag.?  Depends on luck and how long I live. Owe and was lucky last year and got late Kaibab with only 11 points also. I  have only had 1 Antelope tag tho Here in Az. Good Luck ......BOB!
