Coues/Water

Recommended Posts

Quick question I was thinking about and didn't really know the answer:

Will deer in the Central part of the state frequent a frozen water source during the winter or do they search out standing water?

How is there frozen water when there’s standing water available? A river/lake maybe?

Deer will break ice by kicking it also

In dry winter years Coues will hit water several times a day. If water the water source is frozen they will crack the edge with their hooves.

As stated not SO dependent, but they still need water.  I was just on a hunt where several water sources were frozen. A lot of the deer activity was fairly close to the available water sources. It doesnt hurt to break the ice and help them out.

That being said much of the moisture is acquired through the food they eat.
