Reloading for Semi auto

Recommended Posts

So, with my new M1A in the safe, I need to start reloading for it. I reload all of my bolt action rifles, but have stayed away from reloading semi auto. I've always heard that you have to crimp for semi auto or the force of the recoil could unseat the projectiles still in the magazine. Makes sense, but I would think my magnum bolt guns would do the same. Is there a reason not to?

I've never crimped on the loads I've put together for my M1 Garand and never had a problem with the rounds stacked and waiting.

A little more info, I plan on shooting 168GR HPBT sierra match kings(no cannelure)with once fired lake city brass, CCI#34 primers, and an undetermined charge of H4895. Seems the consensus is no crimp.

No crimp. You will want to bump then shoulders a little more than for a bolt action (.003-.004), but case life is short enough with an M1A you aren't giving anything up.

Thanks for the info. Got my small base dies ordered. I'll give her a shot without crimps.
