Teacher fired for giving ZEROS

Unfortunately there is a lot of that going on these days along with parents going bananas when johnny and sally are expected to actually learn/know something from their studies.

My buddy's ex wife got fired from a principal position because a parent claimed she spanked a kid.  They didn't even spank their own kids let alone others. But from the schools position you can't not do anything about it. It just sucks when people make accusations. Some are true some are false. How do you sort through the BS?

Remember that in the new Socialist Society run by AOC and Pocahontas and the rest of the crazy left, you can earn money by not working, getting a diploma by not going to school, free education, health care etc....  Also, AOC was the one that said she is going to be inaugurated and that she wanted to take back all three chambers of congress........... and she wants to give away free education?

I am assuming that the students actually attended class just didnt turn in their homework.  If the teacher was any good at explaining the subject then the student did learn.  I would say that would equal 50%.  Of course if the teacher was a left wing nut and spewed socialism in class then students would not learn and get a zero.  😶

I'm not gonna fact check but I'm gonna go ahead and assume there is more to the story then just giving zeroes. The article says there's more, basically ones word against another's.

I’m sure there is more to this story but...My wife works for the public school system. This is policy. If the kids turn in an assignment with just there name it’s a 50%. Zero no longer exists. They can turn in assignments anytime throughout the school year and cannot be docked points for being late. Reasoning behind the no Zero’s. It’s too hard for them to raise their grade with such a low number getting averaged in!!!!! It’s not the teachers who are failing the kids it’s the system.

I am going back to my schools and getting my grade adjusted to all Bs because i have now found my late homework and my ethnic profile is now being adjusted to allow college tuition adjustments.

If you keep defending your child's bad behavior you'll end up paying an attorney to do the same.

We might as well start paying people for not doing anything!  Oh wait Alexandria Cortez already proposed that with her “Green new deal”

With all due respect, I have to disagree whole heartedly. For starters, my mom was a teacher, my wife is a teacher (private school), my closest friends are or have been principals at public and private schools. Showing up, whether it's the workplace or school doesn't equal 50% IMO. Workplace - that's obvious, you contribute, produce or you don't have a job.

School, well that's pretty much mandatory. In most schools part of your overall grade is just "showing up". So for an individual assignment, getting 50% for not even doing it on top of your overall grade, is just giving out a free "C". As in competent.

Broken down simply, if a student achieves 50% of their overall grade just to show up and sit in class - assuming that's half of their overall grade, then gets 50% of the other half of their grade for doing nothing, that's still 75% overall. A "C" average if all they do is show up.

Obviously this is somewhat hypothetical, as each school and district has different baseline structures, but it does illustrate one simple fact:

We are creating an environment that gives the illusion of success when the individual student has learned or accomplished nothing. And when that happens, it's the student who is getting short-changed in the long run. I can't emphasize that enough. Soft teachers = dumbed-down, entitled students.

I mentioned my wife is a teacher at a private school. It's kind of funny. At first her students are a little intimidated. She has a reputation for being a lot like the teacher at the center of this thread had. She's tough, the kids know it. And I'll tell you this, more kids in her classes, and those that have been through her classes call her the best teacher they every had. These kids want to learn, they want to be pushed, need to be challenged - and have zero respect for a push-over. They respect her toughness and honesty. And they did better in some of the hardest classes in high school (Biology for example) than those who came from the public Jr. High.

It's too bad public schools don't have more teachers like that.

I dont know where you get 50% is a "C".  It is a "F" as far as I am concerned.  I too have friends that are teachers, principals, supertendents, charter school owners, dietitians, school psychologist, and coach.  If a good teacher teaches a subject in class then a student will learn something even if it is by osmosis.  The homework is just practice and the tests are to find out the amount that the student learned.  So, what I am saying is that if a student is in class they had to learn something, not zero.  What were the test scores.  We dont know.  That school used 50% but you can make it any number you want it is still failing.

As usual we dont know the whole story.  The devil is in the details.   You will defend your wife no matter what and she I am sure she is a good teacher.  But, teachers are not all good.  The teachers union is very powerful and many bad teachers are protected by the union.  So, I am not going to defend that person just because she is called teacher.  She must have known the school policy when she got hired.  She sounds just like AOC the new rookie congresswoman shown in a earlier post coming in and wanting to change things before she is dry behind the ears.  :D

Happy Valentines Day.

For starters, simple math. If kids get 50% of their overall grade based on attendance, that's the baseline. If the other half of their grade is based on assignments, and they get 50% on those for having a pulse (that's what the whole topic was about), then well... half of 50 is 25 and...let me get out my calculator...yes, 50 + 25 = 75. That's a C - remember those? "C is for Cookie" 😂

As for reading comprehension, you're saying a 52 year old woman trying to hold students accountable for actually doing their assignments and not learning through osmosis, is a wet behind the ears socialist just like 29 year old AOC who wants to give everything away for free to those who don't want to work. Hmmm. I guess you're right, those are exactly the same. That whole paying attention, doing your assignments and turning them in thing - that's just for rich people. 😁

Anyway, no matter - it's all in fun.  I do hope you know I'm joking and not attacking you personally.

Have a great day.
