Shed hunting Arizona

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! I love the fact of getting out and exploring new areas.  I have always shed hunt in unit 27 for mule deer and coues shed. I am just curious to how far the elk migrate south in that unit, do too all the snow they've had in the higher elevations this winter. I have never found an elk shed but am willing try my luck this weekend.

It is a coues set, but this is the only other picture I have at the moment. The picture really doesn't do justice on the size of this set. I will take some photos tomorrow when I get a chance.

Don't know about normal migration in 27 but I can tell you there are elk all the way to the bottom end of the unit.

Right on! Guess I haven't been that lucky to find one yet. This year has been great especially with all the rain and snow they've had up there compared to the last few years.

that is a pretty impressive set. If you drew a line east and west across the unit at about rose peak, i would guess 90% of the elk in the unit would be found north of that line. there are a few scattered out all through the unit though. Grey's peak is about as far south as any real population exists.

Thanks man! My dad and I found 1 each about a 100 yards apart in 2 separate trips about a year and a half apart.  When ever I get out to my dads house, I will have to take some pictures of some of the mule deer sheds he has found in that unit since the early  80s. There are some ginormous mule deer in that unit. Thanks for the information and I really appreciate it. I'll get out this weekend and try my luck. Will definitely keep you informed on how this trip goes. Thanks again and have a good one.
