This Doesn't Seem Right

I emailed Ruger to ask them their torque specs in inch pounds on their action screws for a wood stocked 77 Mark ll. Their reply was 95 in lbs for the front screw. To me that would just about split the stock if not rip the head off the screw. Winchester and Browning recommend 35 and Remington recommends 30-35.

Rugers don’t stocks don’t sit in a cradle like a 700 or 70. The front screw is in a wedge. 95in lbs is only 7ftlbs. The standard torque for that screw is 105 in lbs. so the screw will take it.

Anything over thirty inch pounds can crush the stock wood. Maybe it won't split the stock but it will put a balancing act on the action you will never be done with. Pillar bed the stock and be done with it.
