37b Muleys

Recommended Posts

Sorry.....  No pics or success stories to share.  Only OLD memories of the days growing-up in Kearny in the 70s-early 80s.   We used to hunt 37B & 24A (before it was split into two units) all the time.  Many great memories of chasing muleys with my dad and his buddies in the washes and mountains along the Gila.   Different times....  Mainly plaid hunting shirts and 30-30s. 🤣  The luxury of great deer & quail hunting 2 miles from home was lost on me then.

One of the things that intrigues me about 37B now is that it has a pretty good coues population now, yet is still one of the units with "Any antlered deer" tags. ;)    Hopefully someone posts-up some nice pics for you!

I killed a decent buck there in 2012 on January 2nd during the archery season.  It is my first and only muley buck with a bow.  It was super windy that day and it had the deer all messed up.  I was able to approach to around 60 yards then waited for a doe to get up and move, taking the buck with her giving me a 40 yard broadside shot.  I hit him slightly high and back but still got both lungs.  He ran about 150 yards and hit the dirt.  I was a happy camper!  I was about a mile and a half from the truck so it was a pain in the butt to pack out the first load but I had help with the rest.

Thanks man, its close to home so I spend a ton of time out there. If I said it was easy, I would be lying through my teeth. That rifle hunt will always be super humbling.

I shot my first buck there (recent story in campfire, "Introduction". I haven't been back for deer since that hunt, but am down there for Javelina every year, and had these guys on my cam in January prior to that hunt. Fun hunt, I love chasing the desert bucks!

I have posted these before, apologies to those who have already seen them, but here are some 37B bucks my neighbor and I killed over the course of several years:
